Assistant Professor - CLTA - Greek Language and Literature The Department of Classics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a one‑year full‑time contractually limited‑term appointment (CLTA) in the area of Greek Language and Literature. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Classics or a related area by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Candidates must present clear evidence of an excellent teaching record and demonstrate the capacity to successfully teach, at all undergraduate levels, translation‑based courses on ancient Greek literature and culture as well as language courses in ancient Greek. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program, and demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills as evidenced in their application materials. Evidence of excellence in research should be shown by an established or emerging record of refereed publications, conference presentations, grants and awards, the submitted research statement, and strong recommendations by referees of high standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, and evidence of superior performance in teaching‑related activities such as teaching assistantship, course instruction, workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or conference presentations. The expected salary range is $110 000–150 000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. Applicants must submit a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, a short research statement outlining current research plans, a recent writing sample (no more than 15 pages), and a teaching dossier including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course syllabi, and teaching evaluations or evidence of superior performance in other teaching‑related activities as listed above.
