Position Overview The Cost Estimator will be responsible for preparing and managing construction cost estimates, cost plans, bid analyses, and financial reporting across multiple projects of varying scale and complexity. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, technical construction knowledge, and the ability to interpret drawings and specifications to develop accurate and reliable cost information that supports project success. Key Responsibilities Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and detailed construction cost estimates. Develop and maintain project budgets, cost plans, and estimating strategies. Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to determine project scope and requirements. Conduct quantity take-offs and detailed pricing analysis. Analyze labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs to develop accurate estimates. Prepare feasibility studies and preliminary budgets for proposed projects. Review contractor bids, tenders, change orders, and variations. Support procurement and tendering processes, including bid evaluations and recommendations. Prepare estimate reports, bid submissions, cost analyses, and financial summaries. Perform value engineering, life-cycle costing, and sustainability assessments. Monitor market trends and maintain historical cost databases and benchmarking information. Identify project cost risks and provide recommendations to support informed decision-making. Collaborate with project teams, consultants, and clients to ensure alignment on project budgets and commercial objectives. Present cost information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Candidate Profile We are seeking a commercially aware and technically capable professional with a strong background in construction estimating, cost planning, or quantity surveying. Qualifications & Experience Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. Proven experience in construction estimating, cost planning, or cost control within the construction industry. Experience across commercial, institutional, industrial, civil, or infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, procurement processes, and project delivery models. Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documentation. Experience preparing tender submissions, bid analyses, and change order evaluations. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software platforms. Familiarity with BIM, digital take-off software, and cost management systems is considered an asset. Membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) is highly regarded. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
