What’s the role? Shell Canada is seeking a Remediation Project Manager also known as Program Manager to join its Soil and Groundwater Solutions team (SGWS). The SGWS Program Manager is responsible for safely managing environmental liabilities, delivering SGWS site assessment, remediation, and monitoring projects as part of a sustainable risk‑management program within the assignment area. The portfolio may include SGWS projects for multiple Lines of Business across various western Canadian provinces. This role can work virtually, with a preference for Alberta residents but other western provinces are also considered. What You’ll Be Doing Accountabilities Drive a Health Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance culture with SGWS consultants and their subcontractors to ensure safe project delivery. Manage a high‑volume portfolio of projects across multiple western Canadian provinces, ranging from initial environmental site assessment through remedial action planning, implementation, monitoring, and regulatory closure. Develop risk‑management strategies for reducing soil and groundwater liability across multiple LoBs, including highly complex projects, due diligence, and sites in litigation. The portfolio may also include hydrocarbon well plug‑and‑abandonment projects; experience with these projects is an asset. Lead and implement country‑wide HSSE initiatives and campaigns as lead focal point. Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders for applicable LoBs and understand business drivers to create sustainable risk‑management strategies. Manage financial approvals and spend with environmental consultants to ensure compliance with financial authorizations. Coordinate provincial advocacy efforts to influence regulations and support the development and approval of sustainable risk‑based approaches. What You Bring Legal authorization to work in Canada on a full‑time basis. Engineering/Science degree, preferably in geology, hydrogeology, or an engineering discipline. A professional designation is an asset. 6 or more years of experience in environmental project management, site assessment, remediation, and risk and liability management in western Canada. Experience working across multiple western Canadian regulatory jurisdictions, understanding soil and groundwater regulations, and establishing credibility to drive risk‑based approaches. Experience with HSSE leadership and mitigation of HSSE risks, specifically in project field execution. Proven record of contract management experience, including improving contractor performance on complex projects. Skill in business partnering and negotiation/advocacy with external stakeholders such as regulators. Additional asset: understanding of hydrocarbon well plug‑and‑abandonment (P&A) requirements at a project‑manager level across Western Canada. Negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to challenge, and ability to build trust‑based relationships across multiple businesses and functions. Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills. What We Offer The base salary range for this position is $106,000 - $159,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
