As Vice‑Principal, you will support instructional leadership and contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture. Working collaboratively with the Principal, you will help foster strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners. You will assist in supporting student success, promoting culturally responsive learning environments grounded in Inuit Societal Values, and advancing school priorities related to literacy, inclusion, and student well‑being. About the School Located in the picturesque hamlet of Arviat, Nunavut, Levi Angmak Ilinniarvialaaq serves the local community. The school has a population of approximately 400 students in a K‑5 setting with a staff of 40. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture. Promotion of the Inuktitut Language and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangiit (Inuit Societal Values) Required Qualifications Education & Certification Bachelor of Education degree Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (International educated teachers who do not hold a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated) Experience Minimum 2 years of experience in a formal or informal school leadership role (e.g., Vice‑Principal, department head, instructional coach, or instructional coach) Minimum 5 years of classroom teacher experience Core Leadership Competencies Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive school climate, supporting student and staff well‑being. Demonstrated ability to support instructional leadership in collaboration with the Principal, with a focus on literacy development and inclusive instructional practices. Demonstrated ability to contribute to instructional improvement through coaching, professional learning communities (PLCs), and the use of student achievement data to support student success. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, families, and community members, particularly in northern and cross‑cultural contexts. Assets and Preferred Experience Language and Cultural Assets Ability to communicate in Inuktitut (verbal and written). Experience supporting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit‑based education. Experience supporting bilingual and ESL programming. Instructional Leadership Demonstrated experience supporting positive school‑wide behaviour and learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behaviour Supports). School Operations & Systems Experience assisting with the implementation of operational directives and departmental requirements, including collaboration with the District Education Authority (DEA) and Regional School Operations (RSO). Experience supporting site‑based school operations, such as scheduling, supervision, student support processes, or contributing to school resources. Exposure to school‑based budgeting or resource management, supporting fiscally responsible decision‑making under the guidance of the local education authority. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range (Certified Vice‑Principal): $110,801 to $157,970 prorated/annum. Nunavut Northern Allowance for Arviat, Nunavut: $21,113 prorated/annum. Conditions of Employment Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate. Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public‑school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications that do not include this documentation will not be considered. Principals and Vice Principals are required to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility as a Nunavut Principal within three years of employment. Mandatory Documentation Successful candidates must provide: 1) a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) dated no more than six months prior to the start date; 2) proof of eligibility to work in Canada.
