Job Description Rose Garden Hospice is a not‑for‑profit organization committed to providing compassionate, holistic care to people with terminal illnesses and their loved ones. The hospice is supported by a dedicated team of caring volunteers and committed staff. The hospice addresses the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of people approaching death and provides support to family members and close friends. It offers expert pain and symptom management to relieve physical suffering. There are ten self‑contained guest rooms and two self‑contained family rooms so family members can rest while remaining close to their loved one. Professional nursing care is available 24 hours a day. Personal support, companionship, bereavement, and spiritual support are integrated into a home‑like setting. Details of Physician Employment The physician will be the designated Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for all patients at the hospice (unless followed by a family physician). Responsibilities include supporting one or two weeks of care, bedside rounding every 1–2 days as needed, 24/7 support during assigned weeks, and assisting with referral triage, intake interviews, and admissions. Provide care to all guests admitted to hospice as part of the scheduled Palliative Physician Rota. Provide palliative care services for contracted days, weekends, statutory holidays, and after‑hours while on call. Provide call coverage arranged equitably and collaboratively among physician members of the palliative care service. If unable to fulfill on‑call requirements, the physician is responsible for arranging a replacement. Visit Rose Garden Hospice a minimum of three times per week to provide direct patient care and remain available for phone support to nursing staff while on service. While on service, attend the hospice in a timely manner in the event of an emergency. Assist with referral review, triaging, and consults prior to admission. Support the transfer process to Rose Garden Hospice. Become proficient in using InfoAnywhere EMR and maintain documentation that meets provincial standards and expectations. Provide care that meets expected standards for palliative care. Demonstrate proficiency in assessing and managing common palliative care symptoms and supporting guests and their families. Provide medical direction and leadership to Nurses, CCAs, Hospitality staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding end‑of‑life decisions and other palliative care concerns. Enter notes and orders in a timely manner. Ensure appropriate documentation including history and physical examinations, management plans, orders, and consultations. Provide medical input to develop, review, and revise hospice procedures and protocols. Participate in data collection, quality improvement activities, program development, and accreditation. Mentor other physicians providing palliative care services to ensure adherence to generally accepted standards of medical care and effective leadership within a multidisciplinary team. Strengthen community support and awareness of palliative care services by educating physicians, team members (including volunteers), patients, families, and the broader community. Share responsibility within the multidisciplinary team for educating members about effective medical interventions for managing palliative symptoms. Educate patients and families about disease processes, prognosis, treatment options, and goals of palliative care. Education may be provided directly during patient visits or indirectly through staff education and development of educational materials. Attend selected family conferences, mentor team members, respond to patient‑related questions from team members and physicians, and facilitate communication across care settings during transitions. Attend and participate in meetings as applicable. Maintain continuing education in palliative care to remain current with the latest management guidelines. Submit monthly invoices in a timely manner.
