Overview British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC) maintains and operates the Expo and Millennium SkyTrain Lines from our central facilities in south Burnaby. The rate‑control rail system connects downtown Vancouver with suburbs such as Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody and Surrey. This role supports the daily maintenance of the rail system and focuses on safety, reliability, and efficiency.ResponsibilitiesManage maintenance programs and activities for designated BCRTC assets to support the highest level of safety, efficiency and reliability.Provide area‑specific input to overall maintenance strategic planning and develop operating plans and tactics to achieve department strategies.Review and sign off on the annual maintenance plan (AMP) and participate in the 5‑year AMP forecast.Develop, monitor and execute the approved AMP for all assets in accordance with BCRTC engineering standards, specifications and procedures.Lead the maintenance department, prioritizing and managing preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, service‑effecting failures and capital projects.Ensure safety compliance, manage regulatory requirements, and conduct job hazard analyses for all work tasks.Oversee departmental performance using key performance indicators, report progress to senior management, and implement improvements.Establish quality assurance and quality control processes, review inspections, and enforce corrective actions for non‑conforming assets.Develop and implement practices, procedures, and SOPs to foster continuous improvement and innovation.Act as senior‑level subject matter expert on capital projects related to assets, including design, development and construction.Manage external contracted services and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and service providers.Recruit, motivate, manage performance, train and develop staff and participate in collective bargaining and grievance processes.QualificationsDiploma or degree in engineering.Eight or more years of maintenance management experience in a large, unionised organization, preferably in transportation, large infrastructure or rail industry.Advanced knowledge of maintenance concepts, principles, practices and techniques in the transit industry.Advanced planning and organisational skills with emphasis on operational and resource planning.Solid knowledge of safety and workplace compliance regulations and legislation.Excellent interpersonal skills to advise senior management and represent BCRTC on internal and external committees.Knowledge of emergency response planning and services.Computer skills in standard office suites and web‑based systems.Work DetailsHours: 37.5 hours per week.Designation: Resident; the position works predominantly on‑site.Pay: $109,920 – $164,880 per annum, based on education, experience, skills and qualifications.Benefits include extended health, dental, transit pass, enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan, and other employment offerings.Equal Employment Opportunity SkyTrain is committed to employment equity and building a diverse workforce, representative of the customers we serve and the many communities in the Metro Vancouver region.
