Agriculture Specialist, Commercial Banking (18-month temporary assignment) - Ottawa area Requisition ID: This role contributes to the overall success of the Agricultural segment of the Business Banking department(s) in Canada, ensuring that specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed to support the team’s business strategies and objectives while adhering to governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. This position focuses on profitable sales of both credit and non‑credit products to agricultural customers and prospects in Business Banking. The specialist will develop an extensive network of referral sources through community involvement within an assigned territory and build high‑value client borrowing relationships in the $1MM to $3MM range. Is this role right for you? Proactively hunt, acquire and develop relationships with prospects, high‑value small‑business customers and COI’s, including new‑customer acquisition targets. Develop and maintain relationships with Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Agriculture Account Managers and Wealth Partners to coordinate market approaches to Agriculture Services. Acquire new Agriculture customer relationships through industry events, local farmers, Agriculture businesses, COI’s, and Scotiabank partners and associations in the local market. Maintain and grow a portfolio allocated with the Agriculture Market Lead, servicing and conducting annual reviews for assigned clients. Align sales, products, risk policy and market strategies to deliver solutions tailored to agricultural businesses’ needs across accounts, operating services, credit, lending and deposits. We would love to work with you if you have: Experience in Canadian Agriculture (educational or working). Post‑secondary education at the university or college level in Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics, or equivalent work experience. A strong knowledge of business financial statements, especially within the Agriculture segment. Knowledge of competitor offerings and alternative financing sources. Knowledge of economic conditions and political events affecting small business, especially agriculture. Proven success in sales, marketing and business development. The ability to build and maintain key relationships, influence and persuade others, and exhibit tactical planning, implementation and organizational skills with flexibility across tasks. Ability to become a trusted advisor to clients by identifying underlying challenges and proposing holistic solutions with the Agriculture team and internal partners. What's in it for you? Promote the bank’s image within the agricultural community through participation and leadership in community business groups and market events. Authorise, renew or decline customer requests within standard policy limits. Ensure documentation is properly prepared and accounts meet conditions of authorisation. Apply the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in daily activities and decisions. Travel is a significant part of the role, with frequent visits to customer farms, trade shows, COI events, and other community activities. Travel may occur in adverse weather and outside office hours. A vehicle will be required, and mileage will be reimbursed.
