Sr Labour Relations Consultant The People Experience Team promotes excellence in people by supporting TEAM RVH through the employee life cycle by delivering innovative people strategies and programs that attract and retain TEAM RVH and support a highly engaged workforce that feels valued, recognized, and safe and allows them to grow to reach their full potential. As the Senior Labour Relations Consultant on the People Partnerships Team, you will provide expert advice to leaders, HR Business Partners and across the people team on all labour relations matters including interpretation and administration of collective agreements, employment legislation, grievance/arbitration management, workplace accommodations and policies and procedures. In this role you will participate and lead, where appropriate, in contract negotiations, labour-management meetings, grievance meetings and arbitrations. Using your well-developed research and analytical skills, you will provide insight on managing labour relations issues, relationships with the unions and projects, along with organizational-wide people programs. Education Bachelor's degree with focus on industrial relations, human resources or related field required Experience Five (5) years of recent relevant experience in human resources and/or labour relations within a complex, multi-union environment is required (preferably in a healthcare environment) Strong track record in grievance handling and arbitration management Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, current case law, and provincial employment legislation Expert ability to interpret and apply employment legislation and/or collective agreements Demonstrated critical thinking skills to proactively identify issues and develop innovative solutions Strong negotiation and mediation skills with the ability to find solutions that meet the needs of all parties Advanced facilitation skills to provide labour relations training and other related training to both leaders and the People team. Collaboration, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to build strong relationships. Strategic, analytical, conceptual thinking with a focus on continuous improvement to develop and implement proactive frameworks Ability to engage and form strong, trusting partnerships with leaders and all union partners Ability to provide pragmatic business solutions to complex employee and/or labour relations issues within a dynamic, fast-paced, service excellence environment Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills Planning and organizational skills to clearly define a course of action for self and others to accomplish short and long-term goals Multi-tasking and time management skills to adjust to shifting priorities with ease and resiliency Strategic thinking and operational execution skills Ability to exercise judgement and discretion and apply a broad perspective requiring an integrated knowledge of human resource management, related disciplines and business processes. Ability to maintain accurate, detailed documentation and records, both electronically and in hard copy. Responsibilities Provides guidance and support to HR Business Partners, leaders and the people team on labour relations matters such collective agreement interpretation, grievance management, investigations, performance management, and progressive discipline Interprets multiple collective bargaining agreements and provides proactive, strategic advice and counsel to management on interpretation and application Support and lead, where appropriate, grievance and arbitration documentary preparation Provide detailed research and analysis for collective agreement negotiations and participate directly in the collective bargaining process. Chair/Co-chair and/or support labour management committees Advises on accommodation and return to work requirements Provides support developing and implementing departmental and organizational wide projects, such as pay equity. Resolve disputes in a fair and consistent matter Support the development of RVH people policies that are in aligned with legislative requirements.
