Overview AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Code Consultant – Fire Protection to support complex infrastructure projects across Canada. This role focuses on the application and interpretation of Canadian building and fire codes, with a particular emphasis on fire‑stopping systems, fire‑resistance continuity, and life‑safety design. The successful candidate will support regulated projects across nuclear, defence, industrial, and other high‑reliability sectors, providing practical, code‑based solutions and technical leadership. Experience with nuclear codes and standards is considered a definite asset. This is a client‑facing position requiring strong technical expertise, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate across multi‑disciplinary teams. Your role Provide code consulting services related to building code, fire code, and life safety compliance. Lead and support fire‑stopping strategy development, including rated assemblies, penetrations, joints, continuity of fire‑resistance ratings, and installation compliance. Prepare and review code reports, fire and life safety strategies, technical memoranda, and design narratives. Review drawings and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and standards. Provide construction‑phase support, including site reviews, field inspections, and deficiency resolution related to fire‑stopping and life safety features. Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and project management teams to resolve code‑related issues. Interface with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and third‑party reviewers. Support business development and represent the fire protection discipline internally and externally. For senior‑level candidates: provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members. Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, technical tools, and best practices. About You Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or eligibility for licensure is an asset. 5–10 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering or code consulting. UL Solutions Integrated System Testing Certification (CAN/ULC‑S1001) is an asset. Experience producing clear, well‑structured technical reports with minimal supervision. Strong working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), National Fire Code of Canada (NFCC), and applicable provincial codes. Knowledge of relevant fire protection standards, including UL/ULC, NFPA, and CSA. In‑depth understanding of fire‑stopping systems, including tested assemblies, penetration and joint systems, and installation requirements. Knowledge of nuclear codes and standards is a definite asset, including CSA N293, N393, and related regulatory frameworks. Ability to communicate complex code concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. Strong collaboration, organization, and client engagement skills. Ability to support multi‑disciplinary projects in regulated environments. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. Valid driver’s licence.
