We are seeking a curious, self-driven, and technically strong Engineering Research Scientistto support the exploration of new design principles and materials for future iterations of the Globe System. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, research-focused environment and is passionate about solving complex engineering challenges. Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC. Meaningful work you will be a part of As part of the Special Engineering Projects team , you will conduct engineering research, benchtop testing , and pilot studies to develop and deliver practical solutions to the most difficult technical and engineering challenges facing the organization . Meaningful work you will be a part of As Engineering Research Scientist , you will report to the senior manager of Special Engineering Projects, and will work closely with the Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams to investigate and validate new materials, bonding techniques, and surface treatments. This role will contribute to the development of innovative solutions that enhance the performance and manufacturability of our medical devices. Your responsibilities will include: Assistingthe mechanical design teamand manufacturing engineering team byexploringnew solutionsfor the development of next-generation Globe devices. Researchingalternative and improvedmanufacturingmethods, includingjoining techniques, surface treatment,coating,plating,andsealing. Designingand conductingexperiments using a methodical and systematic approach, applyingthe scientificmethod andDesign of Experiment (DoE) principles. Documenting and analyzing test results to inform product and manufacturing process design decisions. Communicating effectively with external vendors and internal stakeholders to evaluate feasibility and implementation of new processes. Collaborating with Systems and Testing teams to ensure that output of alternative and improved manufacturing methods meet Design Input Requirements. Participatingin root cause analysis when design or manufacturing issues arise, contributing to process or product updates. Documenting test results,procedures,and processesin a clear and efficient manner,and which lend themselves to efficient hand-off to other teams within the companyfor implementation. They will excel atidentifyingkey questions needinganswers, anddeveloping clear and efficient experimental means of confirming appropriateness and adequacy of proposed solutions. You are suited to our approach andpossessthese attributes: A minimum of aBachelor’s degree inEngineering Physics, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering,Chemical Engineering,or a related field. Higher degree preferred. 10+ years ofreal-worldexperience in processand materials research and development, preferably in the medical device industry. Strong understanding of material chemistry,bonding methods, surface treatments, plating, and sealing techniques. Demonstrated ability to independently conduct literature reviews, design experiments, and analyze data. Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and mechanical assembly. Strong ability to document key findings in an efficientand customer-focused manner. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners. A proactive, curious mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous learning. Compensation Kardiumhas listed the total cash compensation range (base salary + 5% RRSP contribution) that we expect to pay applicants for this role, as of the time of this posting. Pay offered will bedeterminedbased onnumerousrelevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. For candidates withmore or less experiencethan listed above, the pay range will be adjusted. As a permanent employee, you will also participate in Kardium's stock option plan. $99,000 - $145,000 (CAD Annually) The total cashwe’velisted for this position includes a base salary, plus a contribution to a Registered Retirement Savings plans (RRSP) to help support your financial goals.
