Project Opportunity The Scarborough Subway Extension (SSE - SRS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. The project will extend TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometres farther into Scarborough, replacing Line 3 (the Scarborough RT). It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The construction is split into two contracts: Advanced Tunnelling (AT) and Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS). Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is the partner for the development phase. Reports to Technical Manager Main Responsibilities Manage structural design matters in collaboration with the Client, Designer, Construction team and other multidisciplinary teams on the joint venture project. Facilitate the efficient delivery of structural design as well as the design interfaces by coordinating the design development with the designers and project requirements with the client and relevant stakeholders. Lead and review the structural design developed by the Design team. Manage value engineering, risk assessment, life cycle costing, earned value and constructability reviews. Monitor and track Designers’ performance in accordance with schedule and track design changes. Review the technical submissions to ensure compliance with the specified design requirements and standards, identifying design or interdisciplinary issues and ensuring that constructability and construction’s means and methods are coordinated with the Construction team. Resolve issues during construction process through engineering and coordination with the Designer and the Construction team. Manage and track design documentation, submittals and reporting progress and alert appropriate team members of risks related to potential delays. Facilitate effective communication between the Design team and Construction team. Other duties related to design management of the structural scope. Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging. Education and Qualifications A degree/diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering or a relevant field from a recognized institution. 5+ years of design management experience on Rail/Transit infrastructure projects for structural related works. Strong aptitude in design and construction of structural works. Capability to criticize structural designs and develop simplified models and/or calculations. Experience working with TTC and Metrolinx is preferred. Job Requirements Familiarity with BIM processes and functionality. Thorough understanding of design process cycle, contracts, plans, construction drawings, specification developments and regulations. Thorough understanding of engineering and architectural principles, project management methodologies and industry standards. Strong knowledge of OBC, sustainability standards, accessibility standards, municipal standards and other regulations. Proficiency in project management software and computer applications such as Aconex, Bluebeam, Navisworks, Revit and MS Office (MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) Ability to plan, schedule and organize a variety of activities and deal with stressful situations on tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy. A strong eye for design details and the ability to coordinate design and assist in making design-driven decisions.
