Intent of the process This selection process will be used to create a pool of essentially qualified candidates to staff future vacancies in similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis within the Canadian Coast Guard in Victoria, BC. Conditions of employment Reliability Status security clearance – Stream 1 Valid Health Canada Medical Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License Willing and able to work weekends/overtime and travel on short notice Willing and able to access remote sites over rugged terrain and work in extremes of environmental conditions on land and at sea Willing and able to travel for up to three week periods Willing and able to travel to remote areas via trucks, boats and aircraft Willing and able to work at heights in excess of 2.4 m You need (essential for the job) Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following Education Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil, electrical, geotechnical, mechanical engineering or a related engineering degree specialty relevant to the duties of the position. Experience All Streams Minimum three years of engineering experience pertaining to projects in one or more of the following: project planning and design; project management and contract administration; or project construction and inspections Minimum one year of experience in an engineering role that involved site inspections or field reviews Applied / assessed at a later date Stream 1: Minimum two years of engineering experience pertaining to the design, installation and maintenance of civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical systems Stream 2: Minimum two years of engineering experience pertaining to the design and installation of Radio Frequency (RF) / wireless communications systems, IT networks, or marine electronics systems Knowledge All Streams — Knowledge of engineering practices; contracting practices. Abilities All Streams — Ability to develop and implement engineering work plans; communicate effectively orally and in writing. Personal Suitability All Streams — Working effectively with others; showing initiative and being action oriented; demonstrating integrity and respect; applying sound judgement.
