Mott MacDonald is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Traction Power and Electrification Engineer to join our Toronto or Calgary office and to contribute to the design, integration, and delivery of traction power and power delivery systems for rail and transit projects across Canada.Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to the Traction Power and Electrification Systems engineering aspects of rail and transit project delivery, including interfacing with electrical, civil, track, and systems design teamsReview and validate designs, specifications, installation plans, and testing procedures for traction power substations, power distribution, and electrification systemsProvide expert technical input to clients during the development of system requirements and contract documentationPrepare conceptual design and provide input to budget development for traction power systems in project bidsSupport project teams throughout the full lifecycle—from feasibility to commissioningApply lessons learned and recommend corrective actions to improve project outcomesDevelop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and delivery partners for traction power equipment and solutionsInterface with utility providers for power supply coordination and integrationEngage with clients and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and technical standardsCandidate SpecificationBachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related disciplineAt least 3‑5 years of experience in the design, specification, installation, or maintenance of traction power systems, overhead, or power rail systems (strong background in passenger rail and transit projects preferred)EIT designation in Alberta, British Columbia or Ontario or Professional Engineering license preferredExperience in one or more of the following areas:Traction Power Substation design and integrationSpecification of equipment such as transformers, rectifiers, and switchgearPower distribution systems (overhead catenary, LIM, or power rail)SCADA systems for control and monitoringInterfacing with power utilities and regulatory bodiesFamiliarity with Canadian and international standards for railway electrification and power systemsExperience with one or more of the following delivery systems is an asset:Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS)LIMPower rail systemsShop power / “Stinger” systemsINCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification is desirableStrong communication skills and fluency in EnglishAbility to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and lead technical discussions with clients and partnersKnowledge of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle management (IEC/IEEE 15288)Benefits Employees have a stake and a voice in our business, providing them with a direct connection to our success through personal and group performance bonuses.Salary The expected salary range for this position is from $84,000 - $100,000.Location(s)Toronto, ON, CanadaVancouver, British Columbia, CanadaCalgary, AB, CanadaWork Pattern Full TimeEmployment Practices We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing employment accommodation in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA).
