POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor - WPCP, the Lead of Electrical provides technical direction to and instructs and works with the electrical maintenance staff; and inspects, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment used in the operation of Wastewater Treatment and Collection. The Lead of Electrical relieves the Maintenance Supervisor and may be designated as the Overall Responsible Operator, as required. MAJOR TASKS Working in a team environment with the Lead Operator and the Lead of Maintenance, directs, instructs, schedules and works with the maintenance, controls, and electrical staff. Plans, installs, repairs, maintains, connects, and tests electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment and wiring for systems of alarm, communication, light, heat, and power in buildings or other structures. Purchases equipment, material and parts required and recommends spare parts for inventory. Obtains proper electrical permits for any retrofits, repairs or new construction. Maintains and upgrades plants schematics, manuals, operating procedures and narratives. Maintains electrical data collection system, prepares reports, and recommends changes to existing systems and equipment. Installs, programs, and maintains Programmable Logic Controllers and Graphics Packages. Participates in the Electrical Apprenticeship Program as directed by the Skilled Trades Ontario. Participates in operational and capital projects. Performs the duties of an Operator, as required. Relieves the Maintenance Supervisor and may be designated as the Overall Responsible Operator, as required. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience Grade 12 or equivalent as per the Ministry of the Environment certification guidelines Red Seal Industrial Electrician (442A) or Red Seal Electrician - Construction (309A) & Maintenance Must possess and maintain a Certificate of Competency at the current level of the Wastewater Treatment Facility and the current level of the Wastewater Collection Facility Requires a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience as a Journeyman Electrician, including experience in municipal wastewater treatment facilities or comparable industrial environment. Must have proven experience with Programmable Logic Controllers, SCADA (Supervisory Communication and Data Acquisition) systems and be knowledgeable in the use of computer drafting software Must have proven practical process-related experience Skills/Abilities Must possess the ability to direct, instruct, and work with Plant staff and to supervise the wastewater treatment process. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to give direction, motivate, and recognize others; proven ability to share skills and knowledge with others. Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent. Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation. Must be competent within the meaning of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. Must be capable of issuing clearly understandable written/oral instructions and be tactful and courteous with the public. Assets Fire Alarm endorsement would be desirable. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Must maintain a Journeyman’s Electrician status. Currently possess and maintain a valid Class III Wastewater Operator Licence for Wastewater Collection Facilities. Currently possess and maintain a valid Class IV Wastewater Operator Licence for Wastewater Treatment Facilities. Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation. May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified). Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC).
