You will partner closely with the Project Manager, union trades, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to successfully deliver Heavy Civil projects.Provide overall on‑site construction management, coordinating design intent, budget, and schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager, union subcontractors, owners, engineers, and architectsLead and supervise union craft labor in accordance with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), jurisdictional requirements, and site policiesEnsure all work is executed in compliance with project drawings, specifications, quality standards, safety regulations, and union agreementsDevelop and maintain detailed construction schedules; forecast manpower requirements by trade, material quantities, and equipment needs to support efficient work sequencingCoordinate with union representatives, forepersons, and stewards to ensure proper staffing levels, trade jurisdiction compliance, and productive site operationsEnsure appropriate tools, equipment, and resources are available and aligned with union work rules and site logisticsLead site meetings with internal teams, union representatives, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to track progress, resolve issues, and maintain strong labour relationsProactively identify potential risks, work interferences, jurisdictional conflicts, or schedule impacts and communicate them to the Project Manager and senior leadership, supporting timely and effective resolutionWHAT YOU CAN OFFER3–5 years of Heavy Civil construction experience, including deep excavation, deep wet utilities, and electrical utility installations, within a unionized construction environmentStrong working knowledge of union labour practices, collective agreements, trade jurisdiction, and grievance avoidance strategiesA construction‑related degree or diploma with 5–8 years of progressive construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and hands‑on experienceProficiency with construction scheduling tools, project management software, and contract administration systemsDemonstrated ability to identify issues quickly, assess root causes, develop practical solutions, and lead large union crews to successful and safe project completionExcellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build trust and productive working relationships with union trades, management, and project partnersSKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTSContract managementConstruction scheduling, planning, and executionBlue print readingApplicable local and provincial labour codesManaging / leading union and non‑union staffBusiness operations processesOrganization and time managementKnowledge of ProcoreMS Office (Word, Excel, Project)Willing and able to travel to project sitesOntario “G” Driver’s LicenseThe expected salary range for this role is determined in accordance with the union collective agreement.Please be advised that all applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada, unless otherwise stated in the job posting.Black & McDonald welcomes and encourages applications from persons with accessibility accommodation requirements.
