Software Development Manager, CBS Monetization Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely. We are currently seeking a Software Development Manager to join our Engineering team. This role is available to candidates local or able to commute to our Burnaby hub and will require a presence in the office minimum twice per week on two of our Anchor Days. As a Development Manager you will be both a technical leader and a people manager. You’ll design, review, and code alongside your team, coach and mentor to build strong technical and collaborative team members, and create a safe and productive environment for all Clions. A day in the life might look like: Partnering with cross‑functional stakeholders to understand challenges, advocate for pragmatic yet sustainable solutions, craft a roadmap for the team, and drive those solutions from start to finish while coordinating the impacted parts of the organization. Continuously evolving how the team leverages AI and applies it at every step of the project and development lifecycle. Working with the team on designing solid technical solutions, providing guidance, coaching, collaboration, and feedback to produce strong architecture documents, plans, and code. Actively participating as a contributor to projects and the system—requirements, design, implementation, and review. Crafting effective 1:1s with direct reports to support their career growth and development goals. Growing and strengthening Clio’s engineering team by actively participating in interviewing and hiring. You may be a fit for this role if you have: Demonstrated success in people leadership in software development, especially with large‑scale SaaS products. A strong background in hands‑on software development. Proven ability to align a wide group of people with varying needs on pragmatic solutions. History of building clarity and understanding for non‑technical stakeholders through written and verbal communication. A diverse base of knowledge that allows you to help your team solve complex technical problems. The ability to describe successful projects you worked on, as well as lessons learned from failed projects. Growth mindset toward process improvement and new technologies, especially AI. Demonstrated ability to hire the best and brightest engineers in a fast‑paced job market—and to coach, develop, and retain engineering talent. Equal enthusiasm for your own technical work and for contributing to your team’s career growth. Strong opinions that are weakly held, and a willingness to foster that attitude in others. Commitment to providing honest, actionable feedback to your team and encouraging reciprocal feedback. A willingness to devise roadmaps for guidance while remaining adaptable to change. Serious bonus points if you have: A philosophy on what makes for great software development teams. Experience with Ruby on Rails. Experience with quoting, subscriptions, and billing systems at scale. Experience with Stripe Billing (or other third‑party subscription/billing solutions) or Salesforce integration. Experience with product management or business analysis. Compensation & Benefits Competitive, equitable salary with a range of $176,000 to $264,000 CAD (regionally adjusted for local currency). Top performers may be hired at the upper end of the band. Top‑tier health benefits, dental, and vision insurance. Hybrid work environment; local Clions in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin, London, New York City, and Sydney expected to be in office at least twice per week. Flexible time‑off policy with an encouraged 20 days off per year. $2,000 annual counseling benefit. RRSP matching and RESP contribution. Clioversary recognition program with special acknowledgement at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years. Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Equity (DIBE) & Accessibility Our team shows up as their authentic selves and is united by our mission. We are dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. Clio provides accessibility accommodations during the recruitment process.
