What is the opportunity? As a member of the Wills and Trusts Resource Group (WTRG), the Consultant will be part of the principal resource facility providing technical assistance, analysis and recommendations to Canadian Wealth Management partners on various estate and trust account and disbursement issues. The position will support revenue generation through retention of funds by improving the client experience on estate settlements and the opening of new estate and trust accounts, and will help minimize risk and promote consistency in business practices across Canadian Wealth Management. Job Description Overview: The Consultant will work closely with Wealth Management operations to review, analyze, and provide recommendations on estate and trust matters. What will you do? Critically analyze, review and interpret wills and trust agreements submitted to WTRG related to the opening or change in an estate or trust account, identify issues and provide a standardized summary of relevant information for ongoing business use, using knowledge of relevant jurisdictional laws and principles. Analyze estate and trust issues raised by Canadian Wealth Management Operations, applying relevant jurisdictional laws and principles. Make reasoned and informed recommendations to the Manager regarding support of trust, estate and joint accounts, incapacity issues, proper disbursements, succession of trustees, registered plan matters, disputes, complaints, and all related trust and estate account issues. Prioritize escalation of estate and trust account issues based on urgency to provide timely responses. Identify business and legal risks on any account escalated to WTRG and coordinate escalation to the Manager and appropriate resource functions. Play an active role in developing relationships with business partners and delivering a positive client experience. Remain current on developments in the area of estate and trust law. Identify trends in estate and trust related account issues and assist the business in developing policies and procedures. What do you need to succeed? Must haves: University degree or equivalent. 3+ years’ experience in the estate and trust industry or legal training. Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment; demonstrated self‑management, independent analysis of complex issues. Strong interpersonal skills, time‑management skills, ability to work under pressure, sound judgment and problem‑solving skills. Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills. Willingness to participate in continued learning of common law estate and trust concepts and principles. Nice‑to‑have: Interest in attaining a trust designation (TEP, CETA).
