Overview Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster and more securely. As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer , you will sit at the intersection of engineering and client impact, turning the legal industry’s most complex challenges into working software. We offer a hybrid work environment and expect hub‑based Clions in Toronto to be in office at least twice a week on Anchor Days. The role involves occasional travel to client sites to foster strong relationships and provide hands‑on support. What You'll Work On Embed with enterprise clients to map workflows, define success metrics and de‑risk constraints before writing code. Design, prototype and productionise custom AI workflows. Build and maintain integrations that slot into complex client environments using Clio APIs and the modern stack. Work directly with client technical teams to troubleshoot, debug and optimise deployments in real‑time. Translate experimental R&D into stable, production‑grade code that becomes platform features for all Clio users. Surface recurring patterns from the field to inform product roadmap and build strategy. How You Operate Fix root causes, not symptoms – dig to understand why something breaks and bring that back to the team. Move fast when needed (e.g., build a PoC in a day) but know when to harden code for the long term. Communicate technical trade‑offs clearly to non‑technical stakeholders, earning their trust and shipping code. Operate well in ambiguity, energised by open‑ended, high‑leverage challenges and defining problems before solving them. What You May Have Strong full‑stack fundamentals and deep comfort with RESTful APIs and systems integration. Demonstrated ability to design, build and deploy production applications. Hands‑on experience building LLM‑powered applications – retrieval, agents, structured outputs, prompt safety – and taking them through to production. Experience working directly with clients or customers: scoping ambiguous problems, communicating trade‑offs and iterating based on real‑world feedback. A genuine curiosity about AI and how it applies to the legal industry, thinking beyond surface‑level usage. Benefits Competitive, equitable salary with top‑tier health, dental and vision insurance. Hybrid work environment: local Clions in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin and Sydney are expected to be in office at least twice per week. Flexible time‑off policy – encouraged 20 days off per year. RRSP matching and RESP contribution. Clioversary recognition programme with special acknowledgement at 3, 5, 7 and 10 years. $2,000 annual counselling benefit. Compensation The expected salary range for this role is $144,700 to $170,300 to $195,900 CAD. Salary bands vary by region and are designed to reflect skills, experience and performance. For experienced individuals, offers typically start near the midpoint; the upper band is reserved for sustained high impact. Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Equity (DIBE) & Accessibility Our team shows up as their authentic selves and is united by our mission. We are dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion and resist disinformation.
