Location: North Bay, ON Department: North Warning System Control Centre (NWSCC) Security Clearance: Secret Reports To: NWSCC Operations Supervisor Hours: 37.5 hours/week The Electronics Maintenance Technician (EMT) / Trainer provides technical support and training on Communications & Electronics systems within the North Warning System (NWS). The role supports mission‑critical surveillance operations and operates under the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2228. Key Responsibilities Assist in maintaining NWS communications & electronics systems, including data and voice communications, multiplexers, satellite/RF communications, AN/FPS‑124 Radar, AN/FPS‑117 Radar, router‑based IP networks, helicopter monitor, and SCADA systems. Provide technical support to Electronics Maintenance Technicians, NWSCC Crew Technicians, and LCMM/Engineers. Document and maintain records in the work‑management system, including field/incident reports and data analysis. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment at the Short‑Range Development site. Analyze equipment failures to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. Maintain performance and maintenance records. Respond to requests from NWSO or 22 Wing regarding NWS operations and maintenance status. Assist in implementing design changes to improve equipment efficiency and reduce operating costs. Review and provide feedback on minor modifications, projects, and preventive maintenance tasks for the Sustainment Services department. Develop training standards and update course content in accordance with Scope‑of‑Work requirements. Determine course objectives and prepare training materials (presentations, worksheets). Execute training sessions, webinars, and workshops individually or in groups. Deploy to NWS sites to backfill as an Electronics Maintenance Technician or assist operations and engineering with system inspections, preventive, and corrective maintenance. Respond to emergency situations (unexpected failures). Conduct environmental, safety, security, and quality checks and audits, and perform general housekeeping to support a safe workplace environment. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall program and mission. Qualifications Education Completion of a postsecondary program focusing on electronics, electro‑mechanical technology, electrical engineering technology, electrical technologist, or related discipline or a CF military equivalent. Certificates / Licenses Standard First Aid with CPR Level A credential or eligibility to obtain it. Valid class ‘G’ driver’s license or provincial/territorial equivalent. Level II (Secret) security clearance or eligibility to obtain one. Experience Minimum five years of on‑job training working with telecommunications/electronic systems. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of telecommunications, RF, satellite, and IP network systems, with ability to read and interpret drawings and manuals. Proficiency in the use of commercial test equipment and tools for troubleshooting and repair of electronic systems. Proven communication, analytical, organizational, and decision‑making skills. Ability to work efficiently and independently. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Maximo. Customer service orientation and detail focus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
