Job Description This position is responsible for the overall implementation and direction for the assigned area/discipline of the estimating functions to provide services, procedures, and methods for the timely and accurate issuance of estimates and supporting documentation to the client and project management. In responding to estimating requests, it is responsible for ensuring that departmental and company requirements are met. This position may direct the quantitative development of material, labor, and subcontract take-offs, as well as the coordination of information among Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Maintenance. On large to mid‑size or multiple projects, the individual, if on the leadership track, may act independently or may direct a staff of other estimating professionals. If on a technical track, the individual will report to an upper‑level estimator on a mega or extremely large‑sized projects.Develop the estimate plan and coordinate estimate development with the project teamLead the development of the total project estimate; detailed and/or conceptualDevelop cost estimates for labor, materials and equipment for the scope of workPrepare the Estimate Risk Analysis and make cost contingency recommendationsAnalyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelinesDevelop detailed electrical Material Take‑Offs (MTOs) for cable, tray, conduit, grounding, lighting, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, heat tracing, and related bulk materialsPrepare accurate electrical material pricing and labour effort‑hour units based on project scope and standardsCreate electrical work packages and coding structures aligned with the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to ensure complete cost captureIntegrate electrical discipline inputs into Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction (EPFC) estimates, including indirects, escalation, and contingencyReconcile electrical estimates with drawings, one‑lines, load lists, equipment lists, and vendor/subcontractor quotationsConduct QA/QC reviews of electrical quantities, calculations, and unit rates, and review junior estimators’ work when applicableCoordinate and validate vendor quotes for major electrical equipment such as substations, E‑houses, switchgear, and power distribution systemsIncorporate mining‑specific constructability considerations including long cable runs, outdoor substations, remote locations, and temporary power/E&I construction needsMaintain and update electrical unit‑rate databases and norms, and contribute to improving estimating practices and toolsCollaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams to align cost assumptions and ensure estimate completenessSupport estimate reviews and presentations by explaining electrical assumptions, methodologies, basis of estimate, and major cost driversOther duties as assignedBasic Job RequirementsAccredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and twelve (12) years of work‑related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to sixteen (16) years if non‑degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirementsAbility to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitorsJob related technical knowledge necessary to complete the jobProficient in cost estimating techniques, including construction labor hours, productivity loss, materials, plant equipment, indirect field costsAbility to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelinesAbility to attend to detail and work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective mannerExperience in heavy Industrial, Mineral or Mining and Metal projects is an assetOther Job RequirementsStay abreast of current estimating techniques by maintaining expertise through the numerous opportunities provided by professional organizations or by networking with other estimating specialists within the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction/construction management (EPFC/CM) industryUpdate, as required, common rates that are used in the business line estimatesBe active in knowledge management portals and communities with regard to forum questions and discussionsBe knowledgeable about the benefits of Cost Competitive Execution, Excel to Win, Business Risk Management Framework (BRMF) and Strategy to Win; actively promote innovative ideas and solutionsPreferred QualificationsSeasoned expertise to ensure that all pertinent information is updated in relation to the present scope of workShould be involved with an Estimating professional societyMinimum of two (2) years of field experience, preferably in project controls, construction, contracts, or estimatingKnowledgeable about Lump Sum and/or Cost Reimbursable estimatingKnowledgeable about Self‑Perform and/or Construction Management ExecutionKnowledgeable about internal Cost Systems, Progressing Systems, Level I and II Schedules, Work Breakdown Structures and Project Status ReportsProficient across all major estimating disciplines, including direct and indirect costs, escalation, benchmarking, risk management, contingency, and pricing model inputs. Demonstrates strong capability in developing estimate plans and basis documents, applying productivity and crew mix analyses, and leveraging historical data systems.
