Reporting to the Buchanan Library Coordinator and working collaboratively with partners across the institution, the librarian supports research, teaching, and program development activities through advanced research services, scholarly communication support, and collaboration with academic and institutional stakeholders. Responsibilities Scholarly Communication, Open Scholarship, and Emerging Research Practices Provides guidance on the use and critical evaluation of emerging research technologies, including AI, in academic research and scholarly work. Provides guidance across the scholarly communication lifecycle, including publishing practices, open access, copyright, and responsible dissemination of research outputs. Supports faculty and instructors in identifying, evaluating, and adopting OERs for teaching and curriculum development. Supports institutional initiatives related to open scholarship, open access publishing, and evolving research practices. Develops and delivers workshops, consultations, and resources related to emerging research tools and scholarly communication practices. Research and Scholarly Support Supports faculty and staff in developing research projects through advanced literature searching and guidance on review methodologies and evidence synthesis. Provides advanced research consultations, including guidance on research design, methodologies, and information discovery strategies. Conducts complex literature searches and synthesizes search results to support the identification of relevant scholarly resources and evidence. Assists with evidence‑informed program development and curriculum renewal initiatives. Collaborates with institutional partners on initiatives that strengthen research capacity and scholarly inquiry. Research Data Management (RDM) Possesses knowledge of RDM from a library perspective. Stays abreast of developments in RDM strategy arising from Canadian Tri‑Agency Open Access and RDM policies and other relevant organizations. Collaborates interdepartmentally to support RDM initiatives, including contributing to the development and implementation of RDM strategies and standards. Provides leadership and/or subject matter expertise on committees related to research and RDM within the Polytechnic community. Acts as a liaison between research governance bodies (e.g., the Research Ethics Board and Animal Care Committee) and the research community on matters related to RDM. Works with the research community to provide mentorship and researcher support related to RDM practices. Develops and delivers outreach, training, and mentorship programs on RDM policies and guidelines. Provides consultation and training on the development of Data Management Plans. Provides guidance and training on research data organization practices, including file naming conventions, version control, and documentation. Consults with researchers regarding sensitive data management and deposit, especially in research involving industry or external partners. Collaborates with Information Technology Services and other campus groups on solutions for research data storage and sharing. Organizes and facilitates RDM meetings and prepares related documentation. Library Services Familiar with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy and emerging guidance related to AI and information literacy. Familiarity with research methodology in higher education and advanced research skills to conduct high‑level searches. Provides embedded librarian services geared toward student research, innovation, and success. Provides consultation and guidance for literature reviews and evidence syntheses based on researchers’ needs. Assesses existing course material for currency, relevance, accuracy, and appropriateness; locates resources to replace out‑of‑date or irrelevant material. Collaborates on the CAQC accreditation processes, identifying library resources and services that support program development and evaluation. Develops and maintains library research guides and digital learning resources to support teaching, learning, and research. Collaborates with library colleagues to ensure the usability, accessibility, and quality of digital research and learning resources. Contributes to library initiatives related to emerging research practices, digital scholarship, and open education. Consults on collection development as needed; works with library staff to evaluate, change, improve, or implement new systems and standards. Collaborates on and participates in events that support researchers or showcase research projects. Participates in and may contribute to library initiatives and projects that support evolving research, teaching, and learning needs. Performs other related duties and participates in projects as assigned, in support of evolving library and institutional priorities. Required Qualifications Ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships within, across, and beyond the Polytechnic, including maintaining strict confidentiality. Superior time management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables with short timelines. Experience supporting academic research in a higher education or research environment, including familiarity with research methodologies. Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in a library or academic information environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with AI and open scholarship initiatives. Skills and Competencies Excellent communication and relationship building across verbal, written, and listening formats. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Technological proficiency with research tools, data management platforms, and scholarly communication technologies. Digital literacy skills for instruction of digital tools and resources. Critical AI and digital literacy, with a commitment to responsible, ethical, and effective use. Understanding of open access initiatives and the scholarly publishing process. Knowledge of data preservation and accessibility. Collaborative research project support across the Polytechnic community. Project and change management principles. Outreach and advocacy to promote the library’s role. Assessment and impact measurement of library services. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all library practices. Ethical use of digital content and copyright awareness. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with research ethics frameworks and data governance considerations.
