Job Title: Software Development Engineer in Test – Desktop Job Location: Hybrid - Vancouver, CanadaExperience: 1 to 3 YearsRete 40 to 45 CAD PHRole Summary: NearSource is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to ensure the quality and reliability of desktop installation experiences for enterprise-grade applications. This role focuses on test automation, installer validation, and maintaining high-quality release standards across Windows environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDrive end-to-end testing for desktop installation workflows, including install, upgrade, repair, and uninstall scenariosDesign and develop automated test frameworks and test cases for installer-related functionalityExecute test strategies covering requirements analysis, design validation, defect tracking, and risk assessmentValidate installer performance across diverse Windows environments, configurations, and system statesInvestigate and reproduce defects, collaborating with engineering teams to resolve issues efficientlyImprove testing processes through automation, tooling enhancements, and quality best practicesPartner with global engineering teams to ensure consistent and high-quality product releasesContribute to a quality-driven engineering culture focused on ownership and continuous improvementMust-Have Skills1+ years of experience in software testing, QA, or SDET rolesStrong understanding of test design, defect lifecycle, and quality assurance methodologiesHands-on experience with test automation developmentProficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, Groovy, or ShellSolid understanding of Windows OS fundamentals, including file systems, registry, services, and permissionsExperience in testing desktop applications or installer workflowsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsNice-to-Have SkillsFamiliarity with Windows installer technologies such as MSI and bootstrapper-based installersExperience with installation workflows, including silent installs, patching, rollback, and dependency validationExposure to Windows diagnostic and troubleshooting toolsFamiliarity with CI/CD tools such as JenkinsKnowledge of the Microsoft .NET platform is a plusEqual Opportunity Statement NearSource is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment.
