Senior Professional Geoscientist/Engineer - Contaminated Sites Job Category: Contaminant Hydrogeology Requisition Number: SENIO Location Guelph, ON, CAN Description The role of a Senior Professional Geoscientist/Engineer - Contaminated Sites in the Brownfield Assessment and Development service group is to strengthen and expand MEMS’s services with a focus on technical excellence and project execution and delivery. The role includes application of technical expertise in the provision of contaminated sites assessment, risk assessment, and physical and contaminant hydrogeology to operating and non‑operating facilities across Canada. The primary responsibility of this role is the successful completion of and client satisfaction with projects undertaken in alignment with MEMS overall corporate strategy and its mission, values, goals and objectives. This role requires high quality project management and project execution, with an emphasis on building the skill sets within MEMS that create and foster long‑term client relationships, create repeat business and opportunities to expand services within a culture that promotes career growth of junior employees within the service group. The position is primarily office‑based in a demanding consultative environment. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Engagement Lead and provide mentorship on the execution of complex assessment and risk management projects, including: Conducting file reviews, compiling and analyzing intricate datasets, and developing innovative solutions for contaminated site management. Creating and refining conceptual site models and delivering risk‑based recommendations. Stay abreast of internal and external policies impacting the discipline to ensure compliance and innovation. Identify and address competency gaps within the team through targeted training and development initiatives. Develop technical resources, deliver training sessions, and drive the continuous improvement of internal processes. Represent the company as a thought leader in technical advancements through external engagements. Oversee and provide senior‑level review of proposals, work scopes, and project deliverables for assessment and risk tasks. Take a leading role in high‑profile risk assessment projects for complex sites, ensuring the quality and rigor of deliverables. Conduct technical reviews and approve reports prepared by team members. Collaborate with other service groups to provide technical expertise and support. Develop and implement strategies to drive business growth and establish long‑term client relationships. Manage diverse client portfolios and maintain direct, consistent communication with clients and stakeholders. Gather and share client intelligence with leadership, helping shape appropriate responses and strategic decisions. Ensure project compliance with financial, safety, and operational standards as part of the company’s integrated management systems. Partner with the Business Development team to identify new opportunities, engage with potential clients, and provide technical resources to support business initiatives. Identify skill gaps within the team and coordinate the delivery of tailored training programs. Play a key role in the development and evolution of mentorship initiatives and competency‑based training programs. Collaborate with internal leadership to build and sustain high‑performing service group teams. Provide hands‑on mentorship and guidance to staff at all levels. What You Bring A minimum of ten (10) years of directly related experience in executing and managing contaminant hydrogeology projects and/or site assessments. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, environmental sciences, engineering, or similar. Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization. Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre‑access drug, alcohol and fitness testing, and possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license. Other Knowledge and Skills Excellent safety attitude and behaviors. Understanding of environmental industry’s best practices and implementing from planning through execution. Understanding of the upstream and downstream oil & gas industry, oil sands industry and commercial/industrial/brownfields environmental industry. Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite. Proficiency in presenting complex results clearly. Be able to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary setting. Ability to work either independently or as a part of a team interacting with other team members and contractors. Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Self‑motivated with a strong work ethic. Ability to identify, manage and mitigate potential execution challenges (e.g., staffing, cost control, schedule delays) with senior assistance. Working Conditions Office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time, as well as some field work. Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens. Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. Sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations are required. Ability to work varying shifts, including the occasional evening and night. Required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
