ABSA is currently seeking a Controller to join our main office in Edmonton for an estimated 15-18 month contract position, covering a maternity leave. The Controller is responsible for leading ABSA’s financial operations, ensuring robust financial management, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency. This role is pivotal in supporting strategic objectives, maintaining compliance, and providing guidance on ABSA’s financial interests. The Controller acts as a key liaison between finance and technology teams, driving system improvements that align with organizational goals and enable data‑driven decision‑making. Primary Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction for finance services, setting clear goals and communicating effectively with staff and stakeholders. Prepare financial forecasts and annual budgets, aligned with ABSA's strategic operational plan. Oversee all financial and accounting functions, delivering timely, accurate, and reliable information to stakeholders. Prepare monthly and annual financial reports, including analysis of variances, departmental performance, and forecasts. Support department managers in reviewing financial results and addressing budget variances. Manage cash flow, investment decisions, and banking relationships, including authorization and execution of transfers. Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies, GAAP, and internal audit requirements. Procurement & Contract Management Oversee procurement processes, ensuring adherence to policy, procedures, and ethical standards. Review and approve service contracts, leases, and agreements, safeguarding ABSA’s interests. Establish and monitor internal controls for financial transactions, procurement, and records management. Manage financial, credit, and liquidity risks in accordance with Enterprise Risk Management policy. Ensure adequate insurance coverage in accordance with Board Governance Policy, as delegated by the CEO. Assess risks in contracts and agreements, negotiating terms to mitigate liability. Records & Compliance Maintain accountability for financial records, ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations and timely remittances. Collaborate with auditors and external parties for annual audits and financial reviews. Manage finance team (5‑7 people) operations, including job descriptions, performance reviews, and development. Foster a culture of engagement and alignment with ABSA’s values. Project & Operational Support Lead or support special projects, such as fee schedule reviews, capital expense tracking, and operational planning. Collaborate with other departments on budgets, salary administration, and board reporting. Accountabilities Accountable for the organization’s financial management, operations, and monitoring. Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reports. Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations. Education, Experience, Certification, Training Minimum 4 years’ experience in a multi‑department organization Proven experience in strategic planning, risk assessment, and financial systems implementation 2 years management experience Experience with ERP systems and digital transformation preferred Why Join ABSA?
