Senior Firmware Engineer Join us as a Senior Firmware Engineer at ORBCOMM. We’re looking for a passionate Senior Firmware Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, agile setting to transform ideas into action and create high-availability embedded firmware for our products. Location: Ottawa, Ontario – Full-time on-site What You’ll Do Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for ORBCOMM’s proprietary products. Translate software requirements into well-defined tasks and deliver solutions on schedule. Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to ensure product reliability and performance. Enhance and support in‑house development and debugging tools. Implement and optimize low‑power algorithms to maximize efficiency. Who You Are 3–5 years of professional experience in embedded software development. Proficiency in C programming. Experience with ARM and/or Intel-based microcontrollers. Familiarity with real‑time operating systems such as FreeRTOS and bare‑metal. Knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UART/RS232, RS485, I2C, SPI, BLE. Knowledge of STM32 family microcontrollers. Ability to interpret hardware schematics and debug using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Proficiency with version control and issue tracking systems (e.g., GitHub, Jira). Strong attention to detail, collaborative mindset, and effective communication skills. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred). Leverage AI‑enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity. Commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy. Nice to Have Python for automation, test infrastructure, or engineering productivity. Experience with connected/IoT products and high‑availability systems. Experience driving firmware processes, coding standards, and development frameworks.
