ResponsibilitiesCoordinate the work of Electrical Engineers with the balance of a multi‑discipline team throughout the entire project's developmentEstablish client relations and participate in the marketing, design and production meetings regarding electrical systemsAssume the electrical lead on many projectsParticipate in reviews with governing agencies for code complianceConduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplinesCoordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on scheduleTrack the financial aspects of projects and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure completion within the agreed‑upon scheduleWork with the Project Manager and Regional Controller for project reviews with corporate management as neededDirect the activities of other electrical engineering professionals and act as a mentor to other staff members as neededReview electrical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplinesWrite and edit electrical specifications; select equipment, electrical systems and devicesCoordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs and change orders, incorporating agreed‑upon changes into the project documentsProduce and coordinate several projects concurrentlyProvide construction contract administration as neededConduct QA/QC on the work of other Electrical Project Engineers, Electrical Project Coordinators or Electrical CAD Technicians as neededPerform other duties as neededRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasisMinimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems)Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng)Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systemsStrong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and electrical design softwareAttitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a mustPreferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasisPrevious experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desiredData Centre, Semiconductor, Healthcare, Laboratory or Sports facilities experienceExperience using AI productivity tools to accelerate project workstreams, including technical writing, code and specification research, and performance simulation and modellingStrong communication and listening skillsAbility to handle multiple concurrent assignmentsGood organizational skills, confident curiosity, strong analytical judgmentAbility to rigorously audit, validate, and verify all AI‑generated outputs against core electrical engineering fundamentals and regulationsWill to relocate to Calgary if selectedEmployment Equity At HDR, we are committed to the principles of employment equity.
