About This Opportunity This role is focused on driving continuous improvement across Canada Packers hog production system. Working closely with Senior Hog Production Managers, the Production Innovation & Continuous Improvement Specialist will identify, test, and implement initiatives that reduce costs, improve productivity, and strengthen at‑barn execution. The position requires a highly hands‑on role with regular presence in barns and direct engagement with barn teams to sustain initiatives. It reports directly to the Director, Hog Production. Responsibilities Identify potential improvement opportunities and projects that reduce costs and improve productivity, drawing from both internal Canada Packers operations and external/global swine industry practices. Build business cases for proposed initiatives, including analysis of input costs, expected benefits, and value of improvements. Design, set up, and manage on‑barn trials to quickly test proposals for suitability and impact within Canada Packers hog production system. Drive approved initiatives forward with urgency, ensuring timely implementation and completion at barn. Provide ongoing “Hypercare” support following implementation to ensure initiatives are fully embedded in day‑to‑day operations and results are sustained. Support the hog production team by identifying and resolving emerging issues, including participation in barn Gemba walks and team meetings. Work collaboratively with other Canada Packers functions to ensure alignment, clear communication, and incorporation of stakeholder input into all initiatives. Actively seek out and consider perspectives, requirements, and impacts across all stakeholder groups. Skills & Experience Ability and desire to work in both office and barn environments, with an expectation of spending a minimum of three days per week at barn sites coaching and supporting implementation. Post‑secondary education in Agriculture or a related discipline (considered an asset). Swine production experience. A hands‑on approach and genuine interest in working with the animals in our care. Ability to wear appropriate PPE and comply with all safety requirements. Strong internal and external focus for identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve productivity. Computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and basic database management. Must possess strong skills in: interpersonal (ability to work effectively within diverse teams); analytics; organization; problem solving; communication (written and verbal); ability to work under pressure and manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
