Join to apply for the General Accountant role at GS1 Canada Description The general accountant provides support and assists with data collection, cash application, accounts payable, and analysis related to various projects as required. Department: Finance Location: Toronto, ON Key Responsibilities Responsible for month-end close including bank, credit card, AR, and AP reconciliations, documentation, adjusting entries, reporting, and analysis. Maintain Finance and Accounting Policies and Standard Operating Procedures. Perform variance analysis for AR, AP, and deferred revenue accounts to identify root causes and make appropriate adjustments. Review complex transaction entries for AR and AP to ensure compliance with policies. Analyze and record AP accruals and revenue accruals monthly with journal entries. Participate in month-end financial review, providing supporting documentation and making necessary adjustments. Prepare monthly HST/GST and quarterly QST remittances. Assist in preparing reports and supporting documents for audits and gather documents as per audit schedule. Gather, validate, and build financial models from various data sources, ensuring data accuracy. Manage collection, validation, and cleansing of master data for projects. Prepare ad hoc reports as needed. Build trust and credibility with internal stakeholders. Provide backup to other functions when necessary. Perform other delegated duties. Skills, Knowledge & Expertise University degree in Business, Commerce, or related field; enrolled in recognized accounting programs (CGA, CMA). 5-6 years of experience in financial analysis, reconciliation, reporting, AR/AP/GL, including month-end processes; industry experience is an asset. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), especially Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, macros). Experience with ERP systems, preferably Great Plains. Project management experience is an asset. Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact professionally at all levels. Ability to complete tasks on time, overcome obstacles, and suggest improvements. Results-driven with flexibility and entrepreneurial spirit for a fast-paced environment.
