About the Team The Financial Crimes Risk Strategy team owns Stripe's first‑line AML and sanctions programs globally. We manage the lifecycle of financial crime controls, setting global standards, designing controls, and maintaining effectiveness as Stripe's products and the regulatory landscape evolve. What You’ll Do As a Risk Strategist, you will own Stripe's global screening programs — sanctions, PEP, and negative news—setting standards and driving the design of controls that operationalize those standards. You will partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Compliance, Legal, and Operations to embed screening considerations into every product and market decision, and drive innovation in how Stripe approaches screening. Responsibilities Lead Stripe's global sanctions and AML screening strategy, setting standards for screening control design and translating regulatory requirements into actionable programs. Own design and ongoing improvement of financial crime controls, including sanctions, PEP, negative news, and digital asset safeguards. Embed screening risk requirements into product and infrastructure roadmaps across all teams. Drive screening infrastructure and tooling forward by owning requirements, leading execution, and maintaining metrics for effectiveness. Continuously assess and improve screening controls, identifying gaps and recommending enhancements. Champion technology‑forward approaches to risk management, leveraging AI tools, self‑serve analytics, and model governance best practices. Stay informed on industry practices and regulatory developments; represent Stripe's programs to regulators, partners, and auditors. Minimum Requirements 7+ years of professional experience in Financial Services, Payments, or Fintech, with at least 5 years in risk, compliance, or product enablement. Deep expertise in global sanctions compliance and OFAC, EU, UN, OFSI frameworks. Strong understanding of screening program design and control execution. Proven ability to design, implement, and operationalize PEP and negative news screening. Experience designing financial crime controls in complex, global environments. Familiarity with model governance concepts. Technology‑forward mindset with AI tools, automation, and analytics experience. Experience developing risk solutions and working cross‑functionally. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading AML, Sanctions, or Transaction Monitoring initiatives, including vendor selection and watchlist management. Proficiency with SQL and independent data analysis for risk insights. Experience with crypto or digital asset products and related financial crime risks. Advanced degree or professional certifications such as CAMS, CGSS, CFCS. Hybrid Work at Stripe This role is available in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office). We expect actively in‑office work and regular remote work, with flexibility based on personal and team needs. Pay and Benefits The annual US base salary range for this role is $123,600 - $185,400.
