Position Overview We are seeking a Material Expertise professional to join the Cross Fraser Partnership (CFP) for the new eight‑lane immersed tube tunnel on Highway 99 in Vancouver. The role involves selecting, sourcing, and ensuring the quality of construction materials while adhering to technical, environmental, and safety standards. The position requires close collaboration with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to optimize material performance and ensure compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities Provide technical expertise on selection and application of materials for tunnel construction. Ensure compliance with industry standards (ASTM, ISO, BS, EN, AASHTO) and project specifications. Evaluate and recommend material solutions for geotechnical and environmental conditions. Conduct material testing, quality assurance, and durability assessments for key materials such as concrete, steel, waterproofing membranes, and fireproof coatings. Work closely with procurement teams to evaluate and approve suppliers. Monitor material performance and lifecycle to ensure sustainability and cost‑effectiveness. Collaborate with engineers, designers, and construction teams to align materials with project needs. Develop and implement material inspection and testing procedures for both on‑site and laboratory assessments. Address material‑related challenges, recommending alternative materials as needed. Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations related to material use. Job Requirements Proficiency in material testing techniques, laboratory procedures, and field inspections. Strong understanding of tunneling construction materials (e.g., concrete mixes, reinforcement steel, shotcrete, grout, waterproofing systems). Experience in material procurement, supplier evaluation, and contract management. Knowledge of tunnel construction techniques. Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) for material tracking and management is a plus. Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Education and Qualifications Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Material Science, or a related field. 8‑12 years of experience in material selection, testing, and quality control for large‑scale infrastructure projects, preferably tunnels.
