Sub-System Engineer Location: Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, QC Position type: Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Industry: Rail Transportation / Rolling Stock Positions to fill: Sub-System Engineer (SSE) - HVAC, Doors, Propulsion, Brake, Aux Pay Information Base pay range: $110,000/yr - $120,000/yr Role Responsibilities Engineering and design: Providing electrical architecture, technical specifications, and interface definitions for auxiliary power systems (APU) including calculations and design documentation. Requirements management: Translate customer and internal train-level requirements into subsystems for Propulsion and air supply, defining functional and performance specifications. Issue resolution: Drive resolution of technical issues related to Propulsion systems during design, production, and in-service operation. Integration: Ensure seamless mechanical and electrical integration of the APU subsystem; collaborate with propulsion, brakes, and train control disciplines. Supplier management: Validate supplier equipment and manage technical relationships to ensure compliance with project and company standards. Verification and validation (V&V): Define and execute test procedures, participate in factory and train-level tests, and conduct design reviews to verify subsystem functionality. Documentation and configuration: Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, interface control documents, specifications; manage change control and product configuration throughout the project lifecycle. Project management: Plan, monitor, and control all APU-related activities including schedule, resources, and costs to meet QCD commitments. Technical support: Provide expertise and support to production, commissioning, and service teams, addressing technical issues during revenue service. Safety and reliability: Ensure Propulsion system safety and dependability requirements are met, including FMECA and support RAMS analyses. Lifecycle support: Provide technical support throughout the vehicle's lifecycle, including sourcing, production, and maintenance. Qualifications A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of experience in system engineering or design, preferably in railway, automotive, or aerospace industries; familiarity with railway-specific processes. Strong knowledge of electrical principles, power systems, and the system engineering process. Familiarity with railway subsystems is a plus. Experience with relevant tools such as MS Office and DOORS for requirements management. Strong communication skills, problem-solving mindset, and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
