Position Overview As part of our Building Science and Accessibility Consulting team, the Accessibility Auditor is responsible for conducting comprehensive accessibility assessments of buildings and facilities for public and private sector clients. The role involves field auditing, code compliance evaluation, data analysis, and report preparation to support clients in meeting accessibility legislation and universal design objectives. The ideal candidate combines technical understanding of building systems and design with strong communication and analytical skills, ensuring that deliverables meet both regulatory and client expectations. Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed on-site accessibility audits for a range of facility types, including civic buildings, recreational facilities, libraries, administrative offices, and multi-residential properties. Assess compliance with relevant accessibility codes and standards (e.g., AODA, OBC Section 3.8 and 9.5, CSA B651, ADA, local bylaws). Collect and document measurements, photographs, and field notes using standardized templates and digital tools. Identify accessibility barriers and develop prioritized, practical recommendations for remediation. Prepare professional, client-ready accessibility reports summarizing findings, deficiencies, and recommendations. Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and other consultants to develop integrated, cost-effective accessibility strategies. Contribute to the preparation of proposals, methodologies, and fee estimates for accessibility-related projects. Support internal quality assurance reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of audit tools and templates. Stay informed on evolving accessibility legislation, standards, and universal design principles. Qualifications Education: Diploma or degree in Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related technical discipline. Additional certification or training in accessibility (e.g., RHFAC Professional, Accessibility Assessor, Universal Design Certification) is an asset. Experience: 2–5 years of experience in facility assessments, building audits, or accessibility consulting. Working knowledge of accessibility standards and barrier-free design principles. Experience delivering consulting projects and managing client expectations preferred. Skills: Excellent communication, analytical, and technical writing skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret codes, drawings, and site data. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data collection/reporting tools (Excel, GIS, or tablet-based audit software). Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to client sites across regions. Asset/ Preferred Qualifications Certification as aRick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) Professionalor equivalent.
