Primary Location: CA - Fort McMurray, AB - 9715 Main S Compensation: CAD 82,000 - CAD 125,000 - yearlyJob Description TheMunicipal Engineerplays a key role in shaping resilient, sustainable communities by contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of essential municipal infrastructure. This position focuses on underground utilities, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater management, and drainage improvements, and offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects from concept through construction.In this role, you’ll combine hands‑on technical design with collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, while gaining valuable exposure to construction‑phase services. You’ll work with a degree of autonomy, supported by experienced senior engineers and project managers who are committed to your growth and professional development.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop detailed designs and calculations for water, sanitary, storm, and drainage infrastructure in accordance with municipal and provincial standards.Prepare engineering drawings, design reports, technical memos, and cost estimates.Support preparation of tender documents, including specifications and quantities.Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide construction support during project execution.Coordinate with internal disciplines (survey, geotechnical, environmental) and external stakeholders (municipal staff, utility companies, contractors).Contribute to quality assurance/quality control processes.Assist project managers with scheduling, budgeting, and client communication as required.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and registration as EIT with a recognized Provincial engineering association2+ years of experience in municipal engineering, preferably in a consulting environment.Experience with underground infrastructure design (water, sanitary, storm, drainage).Strong understanding of municipal standards, design guidelines, and permitting processes.Ability to interpret survey data, geotechnical reports, and utility information.Preferred QualificationsExperience preparing tender packages and contract documentsStrong knowledge of construction practices and municipal inspection proceduresProficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other civil design platformsFamiliarity with hydraulic modeling tools such as WaterCAD and SWMMExperience working with northern, rural, or remote communities is an assetAbility to manage small tasks or sub-projects with minimal supervisionStrong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skillsCollaborative team player with excellent written and verbal communication skillsHigh attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality workAdditional InformationSponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.Benefits AECOM is proud to offer comprehensive benefits to meet the diverse needs of our employees.
