Job Description We are hiring a Senior Compliance Engineer to support the functions and objectives of the Compliance team. The Senior Compliance Engineer will work closely with AltaLink's cross‑functional teams and individuals across various levels of seniority to ensure compliance processes and procedures are in place to evidence compliance to Alberta Reliability Standards, including the CIP requirements, ISO Rules, and others as the compliance needs of the business evolve. The role will identify new and innovative solutions for compliance and collaborate with internal departments, the Alberta Electric System Operator, the Market Surveillance Administrator and other industry members to ensure AltaLink meets evolving reliability and security requirements. Responsibilities Develop and maintain an understanding of compliance with Alberta Reliability Standards, ISO Rules, emerging reliability and security requirements and regulations, and advise on how AltaLink can achieve compliance. Draft, review and improve processes and procedures to ensure the evidence collected meets compliance requirements under the rules, standards and regulations. Perform risk assessments and direct compliance assessments and validate/monitor activities in accordance with compliance programs developed in the Compliance Areas. Review evidence for any non‑compliance or contravention of rules or standards. Support and/or lead investigations into non‑compliance events, including conducting root‑cause analysis and proposing remediation plans. Lead the drafting and project management of self‑reports and mitigation plans for submission to the Market Surveillance Administrator, coordinating leadership review to ensure accurate and timely submissions. Lead the drafting and project management of responses to information requests received from regulators, coordinating internal inputs and leadership review to ensure accurate and timely submissions. Assist and support all external or internal auditing of Compliance with the applicable rules and requirements, including technical review and validation of evidence. Provide technical leadership and expertise on process development and internal control design to prevent instances of non‑compliance and to improve AltaLink's Compliance Program performance. Participate in industry technical groups as required. Propose draft comments in regulatory consultations relating to compliance, including ISO Rules, ARS standards or MSA consultations. Support audits by coordinating audit activities, preparing and validating evidence, and responding to auditor inquiries. Requirements University Bachelor Degree(s) in Engineering or a related field. Minimum 10‑12 years of experience in Systems Operation, EMS, Asset Management or another related technical area. Proven ability/experience in the above responsibilities. Experience with NERC or Alberta Reliability Standards. Experience with Compliance Management Systems, such as AssurX and SAP GRC, would be an asset. Experience in a regulatory environment would be an asset. Experience as a Reliability Standards auditor would be an asset. Collaborative and diplomatic personality; team player attitude is essential. Ability to engage and lead others. Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate technology applications to solve compliance requirements. Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a wide variety of reporting demands simultaneously. Strong knowledge of business process modeling techniques and workflow systems. Advanced level of knowledge for writing reports using a variety of Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Visio, or SharePoint. Ability to provide constructive feedback and adapt alternate methods when working in a team to ensure AltaLink objectives are met. Able to work effectively in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships with team members from various work experiences.
