Rocky Mountain Adaptive (RMA) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to enable individuals living with physical, sensory, and neurodivergent challenges to participate, learn and excel in mountain sport and recreational activities in the Canadian Rockies. As a multi‑sport, year‑round organization who provides access to mountain sport and recreation, RMA offers adaptive sports equipment, specialized instructors, trained volunteers and unique training opportunities. Activities include biking, canoeing, hiking, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, swimming, and much more! Term: Full Time Seasonal (June 1, 2026 - August 31, 2026) Timescale: 35 hours / 5 days per week (maximum 40 hours per week) Location: Canmore, Kananaskis, and Banff Working Conditions: Active outdoor environment – physically demanding (lifting/pushing/pulling), required to work outdoors in summer conditions up to 5 days a week, shared office environment Wage: $18 - $19 per hour (commensurate on certifications and experience) Perks & Benefits: Access to pro deals, use of program equipment on personal time (as available), extensive paid training, access to shared office computers Report to: Program Coordinator Position Overview The Recreation Programmer will act in a hands‑on role facilitating activities and lessons, setting up and packing down adaptive equipment, greeting guests and family members, providing safety briefings to volunteers and supporting staff, providing community awareness of adaptive sport, monitoring and recording each guest’s equipment needs and skills, plus other assigned duties. Successful applicants will focus on either biking, paddling, hiking, or multi‑sport activities, while being cross trained in all activities. Responsibilities Facilitate and/or teach a variety of adaptive activities, primarily in the area of focus: mountain biking, Bowhead biking, leisure biking, paddling, tennis, soccer, climbing, swimming, hiking, and others. Deliver various lesson formats including multi‑week programs, private lessons for individuals and/or families, specialized group lessons or camps. Ensure proper duty of care is maintained for participants and risks are minimized. Maintain and set up/take down all required equipment. Complete regular Lesson Report Forms and Equipment Logs for all activities, noting equipment set‑up, assessment of skiing/snowboarding level, challenges and successes, and plans for future lessons. Engage with parents and/or guardians to provide feedback about participant progress and gather input to improve the program. Help with RMA’s marketing and outreach efforts: Gather photo and video content from participants to help them tell their ‘RMA experience stories.’ Assist with various fundraisers and/or outreach events. Drive RMA vehicles and trailers for any programming needs. Assist with other duties as assigned. Requirements Qualifications: Standard First Aid (AED/CPR C) OCC Field Leader (course may be provided during training; continued employment conditional on passing) Biking only: BICP/GSMBC/PMBIA Level 1 (course may be provided during training; continued employment conditional on passing) Paddling only: Lake Kayak Instructor Level 1 (course may be provided during training; continued employment conditional on passing) Class 5 Driver’s Licence Skills & Experience: A keen interest in outdoor education and adaptive sport. Experience or interest in paddling, hiking, biking, swimming, climbing, or other mountain sports. Ability to problem‑solve, work independently and as part of a team. Time‑management and organizational skills. Good oral and written communication skills, and good interpersonal skills. Experience working with individuals with physical and/or neurodivergent challenges is an asset. Eligibility Criteria This position is funded through the Canadian Government Summer Jobs Grant Program.
