About the Organization The Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) is the collective voice of local governments across the province of British Columbia. For more than a century, this highly regarded member association has represented local governments of all sizes. UBCM plays a central role in advancing shared interests through policy development, government relations, and sector‑wide collaboration. Its mission is grounded in being the recognized advocate for local government in British Columbia while meeting the evolving needs of its members through advisory services, training and information sharing. Role Overview The Executive Director reports directly to the UBCM Executive Committee (Board of Directors) and is responsible for strategic advice, design and implementation of all UBCM advocacy and outreach, member engagement, policy development, funding program delivery and member benefit programs. Overseeing a staff of 35, the Executive Director ensures that UBCM effectively represents and advances the collective interests of all local governments in British Columbia, consistent with its mission to be the recognized advocate for their common interests and to meet member needs through policy leadership, communications, and services. The role operates at the intersection of governance and execution—providing strategic advice to the President and Executive Committee while ensuring effective implementation of the annual work programme and organizational priorities. Qualifications The ideal candidate has held senior executive roles within municipal or provincial governments, or executive leadership roles within membership‑based associations delivering multi‑faced programs spanning advocacy, policy development, and/or member services. Experience working in a non‑partisan manner with a diverse membership or Board is crucial; an understanding of the needs of both rural and urban members across the province is essential. Highly strategic, with advanced stakeholder relationship skills, the preferred candidate can balance competing interests while maintaining organisational integrity and credibility. Location & Compensation The position will be based in either Victoria or Richmond, BC, with regular travel between the two offices and throughout the province. The expected salary range is $220,000 to $260,000 based on experience, plus benefits and pension. #J-18808-Ljbffr
