Position Details External Posting #25/26‑288E – Indigenous Education Advocate at Nechako Valley Secondary. 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. Continuing position starting as soon as possible. Summary A proactive member of school staff who provides additional culture, language, and emotional support to Indigenous students, acts as a positive Indigenous role model, and promotes pride in Indigenous culture. Responsibilities Communicate with teachers to support the academic, cultural, social, and emotional needs of Indigenous students. Communicate with teachers and parents/guardians to increase and promote student success. Assist teachers and other professionals with literacy and numeracy programming for students. Advocate for Indigenous students and function as a member of the school‑based team when required. Provide regular administrative reports to the school and the Indigenous Education Department. Attend to any additional duties assigned by the school or Indigenous Education Department to support students. Qualifications Completion of Grade 12 (Dogwood Certificate). Two years of study related to working with Indigenous families and children, or equivalent; studies must include an Indigenous education component. BC Driver’s License class 5 with an exemplary driving record. Six months of current relevant experience working with Indigenous students. Familiarity with the families and communities of surrounding reserves, off‑reserve families, and local band offices and staff. WHMIS certificate and familiarity with WorkSafeBC safety procedures. Additional Requirements Successful applicants will be required to obtain a Criminal Record Check through the Criminal Record and Parole Program (CRRP).
