Ensure designs comply with Canadian Building Code (NBC), CSA standards, and provincial regulations. Perform load calculations, seismic analysis, and wind analysis to ensure safety and reliability. Review and approve construction drawings, specifications, and material selection. Project Management: Lead structural engineering projects from concept to completion, including feasibility studies, cost estimation, and scheduling. Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution. Monitor project progress and resolve technical issues promptly. Ensure projects meet quality standards, timelines, and budget requirements. Compliance with Canadian Laws and Standards: Ensure all projects comply with the Canada Labour Code (CLC) and applicable provincial labor laws. Adhere to construction codes and regulations, such as the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) and provincial/territorial standards. Implement safety measures in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) or equivalent provincial regulations. Monitor and enforce adherence to environmental standards and sustainability practices as outlined by relevant federal and provincial authorities. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on Canadian labor laws, workplace safety regulations, and environmental standards. Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and local regulations. Prepare engineering reports, permits, and documentation for regulatory submissions. Sustainability and Innovation: Incorporate sustainable design principles into structural projects to minimize environmental impact. Research and implement new materials, methods, and technologies to enhance structural performance and cost-efficiency. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the team. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including clients, government agencies, and the public. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred). Licensure: Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a provincial/territorial engineering association (e.g., APEGA, PEO, or Engineers Canada). Eligibility to practice as per Canadian labor laws is required. Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a focus on buildings and bridges. Proven experience with Canadian standards, including the NBC, CSA A23.3 (Concrete Design), CSA S6 (Bridge Design Code), and other relevant codes. Experience in seismic design, wind analysis, and structural retrofitting is an asset. Technical Skills: Proficiency in structural design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or Tekla. Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting tools. Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and 3D modeling tools. Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interactions.
