Overview Summary: VARC monitors 400 bluebird boxes in the Merrit area from May to August. Volunteers are allocated a route of 15-20 boxes and check them every 10 days. All materials, information and training are provided. Location In-Person — Merrit, British Columbia When Opportunity Type: Ongoing - Start Anytime Schedule Asap About This Opportunity Become part of a local team of over 20 people that help monitor the Mountain and Western Bluebirds as they return to the area for the breeding season. Once every 10 days, we ask you to check on 15 - 20 boxes and report back to us as to which species is using the box, if they have eggs or chicks and the estimated age of the chicks. We will provide training and materials to get you up to speed and put you in touch with the rest of the team. It is a fun activity and provides a great opportunity to get out into nature and contribute to local conservation efforts. We do ask that volunteers commit for the whole season in order to ensure our data is not compromised. If a volunteer needs to miss a couple of checks, then we need to be notified so that we can get someone to fill in.
