Job Summary Dennis Group’s Process Engineers are key in our projects of designing and building food and beverage processing facilities. Process Engineers work in every aspect of a project — controls, packaging, mechanical, electrical, building system, architecture, etc., from the conceptual stages to design completion, and throughout construction. They provide expertise in flow diagrams, alterations, constraints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), layout, install, and commissioning and start‑up. Process engineers enable operational efficiencies for the food and beverage process plants of our clients.ResponsibilitiesExecute all tasks necessary to complete the engineering on a project for design through execution with minimal supportDevelop process design basis and select unit operationsDevelop operation specificationsCoordinate with other project disciplines (engineers, designers, architects, etc.)Preparing process flow and piping and instrumentation diagramsCreate process flow diagramsPreparing mass and energy balancesSizing and specification of process and process utility equipmentEquipment procurement and bid evaluationAssist project management with the development of project scope, budget and schedule for all process related workHelp coordinate the schedules and work of contractors for process equipment installationPrepare preliminary sub‑contractor scope of workWork with clients, vendors, and suppliers to develop cost estimates and proposalsWrite proposals, negotiate agreements, troubleshoot client issuesUpdate drawings provided by senior engineers to verify correctionsCompile information for client presentations, shop drawings review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, etc.Take on lead process engineer on specific projects and be the client main process point of contactGenerate requirements for equipment performanceCollaborate with Project Management, design team, CAD department, vendors and clients to determine needs and solutions for continuous processing/ packaging systems and to develop specificationsProvide client assumptions on supply recommendationsDevelop process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs) and review layout drawingsOversee process and utility equipment installationsProvide onsite construction start‑up and commissioning supportPerform onsite audits and surveys of the facilities and equipmentResearch processing engineering best practicesSupport talent growth within our organizationAssist with interviewing and hiring new team membersHandle complex issues and tasks with minimal supervision and advise subordinate team members on solutions to issues they encounterProvide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisorRequired Education, Skills, and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in chemical or process engineering8+ years of work experience developing process designs for food and beverage processing facilities8+ years of work experience preparing process flow diagrams and P&IDs8+ years of work experience sizing and specifying process and process utility equipment8+ years of work experience developing project scope, budget and process related work schedulesExperience with professional services, process engineering, and food and beverage firms is a plusInterest in food safety and sanitary design principles and a desire to learn about various food and beverage industry standards, practices, and regulationsProficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCADExcellent oral and written communication skills with proven client interaction experienceMust meet travel requirement – on‑site construction project coordination and management with travel between 30–50% of the yearPhysical RequirementsProlonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computerMust be able to lift up to 15 pounds at timesTravel RequirementUp to 50% travel required to visit project sites and other officesAbout Us We plan, design, engineer, and build food plants for major brands across the country and the world.
