Position Overview The Electrical Instrumentation Superintendent will oversee field operations, manage foremen and labor crews, and ensure scheduling, cost control, and quality standards are met. The role involves coordinating with clients, architects, suppliers, subcontractors, and site staff while maintaining positive working relationships. Safety is paramount. Field supervisors are responsible for enforcing safety policies and participating in the safety program. The superintendent will support the creation, implementation, and verbal promotion of safety initiatives. District Overview Kiewit Energy Canada is a major industrial contractor providing engineering, procurement, and construction services to oil, gas, chemical, ethanol, and related process industries. Projects include oil sands processing facilities, refinery expansions, gas plant expansions, co-generation facilities, major mine developments, and pipe spool fabrication. Location Teams are relocated based on project availability, skill sets, and career goals. Location requirements are subject to project needs. Responsibilities Mentor and develop Junior Superintendents and Foremen. Review and approve Foremen, journeymen, and laborers’ composite labor rates. Manage contract administration and communications with subcontractors and field teams. Plan and execute work safely. Develop programs to maintain strong client relations. Initiate and attend supplementary and regular client meetings for problem resolution and planning. Oversee and approve monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash‑flow projections. Review, approve, and negotiate change orders. Develop and implement a plan for project completion and turnover. Maintain a daily diary for record‑keeping. Ensure timely performance evaluations for direct reports. Recommend organizational or procedural changes when appropriate. Qualifications 8+ years of construction experience, including 3+ years in a superintendent or leadership role, preferably on industrial projects such as oil/gas or renewable energy construction. Proficiency in electrical and instrumentation systems and controls, including PLCs, DCS, and SCADA. Experience in commissioning and startup. Ability to review electrical drawings such as cable schedules, layout drawings, P&IDs, and installation details. Self‑starter with high motivation and minimal supervision. Quick learner of Kiewit policies, procedures, and software. Strong problem‑identification and resolution skills. Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills. Passion for safety and preventing injuries. Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration. Other Requirements Regular, reliable attendance. Ability to work productively and meet deadlines. Professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, and others in a team environment. Ability to perform work safely and effectively, following oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment usage, and policies. Work during normal operating hours and be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed. Flexibility to work at various locations, with conditions that vary.
