Ozz Electric is looking for a H&S Manager to join our Ontario location. Position Summary The Health and Safety Manager (HSM) will report directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer. The Health and Safety Manager will have a direct report in the position of a Health and Safety Coordinator. The HSM is responsible for managing all health and safety initiatives and projects. The HSM will foster health and safety awareness within the organization, ensure corporate compliance with legislation, maintain employee training and certifications, conduct internal audits and inspections, provide statistical reports to senior management, and consistently work toward maintaining a safe working environment. The HSM will build relationships and provide support to employees and management in both field and office operations. Organizational objectives, initiatives, and projects are driven from OZZ corporate offices in Ontario. The HSM will be responsible for BC and a small operation in Washington. Role And Responsibilities Primarily focused on Health and Safety initiatives for office and site employees. Responsible for the initiation, development, and implementation of health and safety awareness through programs, systems, committees, and engagement activities. Leading member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all legislation and consistently organizing committee meetings. Maintain and develop the health and safety program through continuous improvement. Perform workplace incident investigations, manage WCB claims, and complete necessary paperwork for clients, the compensation board, and ministry. Determine preventive strategies for incidents and proactively improve the health and safety culture. Handle employee personnel escalations independently while working in tandem with site supervision. Involved in WCB claims including completion of paperwork, issuing and monitoring modified duties, creating and administering return-to-work programs for injured workers, and implementing safe working procedures following outlined policies and procedures with internal and third‑party resources. Complete safety training for onboarding and orientation of new employees, ensuring completion of training programs and associated administration. Promote constructive work relationships through effective communication with all employees, providing an accurate and positive representation of the Health and Safety department. Provide leadership, guidance, and technical support to all company operations regarding health and safety programs and practices. Conduct safety evaluations of project sites using documentation and standardized processes. Ensure that subcontractors adhere to required safety standards as per policy and procedures. Assess risks and trends in the workplace and implement corrective measures to reduce risks. Provide in‑house health and safety training, including orientation and various employee‑specific training, and maintain compliance with up‑to‑date legislation. Investigate, report, and provide guidance on root causes for incidents, employee safety programs, and regulatory compliance pertaining to health and safety. Conduct field visits, inspections, and audits of construction job sites. Advise on a wide range of specialist areas (regulations, fall protection, occupational health, hazardous substances, client on‑line training programs). Enter data from various sources to maintain and update databases and spreadsheets. Ensure data integrity by verifying inputs and calculations with an eye to detail. Perform additional related duties in accordance with job responsibilities and department objectives as required. Skills and Qualifications Post‑secondary education and/or certification in Health & Safety or Human Resources. Experience in construction and/or industrial services. Experience in a COR‑certified environment is considered an asset. Knowledge of CVOR practices, inspections, and regulations is considered an asset. Understanding and knowledge of all federal, provincial employment standards, occupational health and safety regulations, the Human Rights Code, WCB, etc. Key Competencies Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and handle large workloads. Strong conflict‑resolution skills with the ability to navigate well in ambiguity. Proficient understanding, knowledge, and use of Word, Excel, and business‑related operations software. Ability to process raw data/information from multiple sources and make decisions based on this data. Ability to think critically and solve problems, with excellent organizational skills and good judgment. Ability to work in a team environment or independently with strong self‑management. Ability to travel to job sites in BC, and occasionally to Redwood, WA.
