Environmental Services Manager Reporting to the Executive Director, the Environmental Service Manager oversees the efficient operations of Environmental Services, including the Laundry, Housekeeping, and Maintenance departments. The Environmental Manager works continuously to improve processes within the available resources, leading the teams in all three departments in implementing resident-focused services. The role ensures residents’ safety and comfort by following Extendicare’s policies, procedures, and the Long-Term Care Act 2021 (FLTCA), upholding the principle that the long‑term care home is a place where residents live with dignity, security, safety, and comfort, meeting their physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural needs. Responsibilities Facilitate planning and implementation of Environmental Services to accomplish annual goals and objectives consistent with Southlake Village’s vision. Maintain records as required by law and accreditation, overseeing all phases of housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance in accordance with departmental standards. Supervise maintenance of grounds, parking lots, driveways, landscaping, cleanup, snow removal, and exterior property. Manage exterior equipment such as generators, transformers, HVAC equipment on the roof, ensuring preventive maintenance is performed to meet all standards. Ensure preventive maintenance is performed and logged for Electrical, Lighting, Plumbing, Water Systems, HVAC, Beds, Doors, Laundry equipment, Kitchen Equipment, Fire Safety, Boilers, Eye wash stations, and daily temperatures (excluding services performed under contracts). Keep all records and licenses for Maintenance, Laundry, and Housekeeping up to date. Conduct ongoing quality inspections and produce reports. Implement processes and controls at the floor level to manage resources (staff and supplies) efficiently. Coordinate equipment and furnishing repairs. Coordinate fire drills and annual code compliance per Extendicare policies. Manage all facility contracts, including pest control, waste removal, confidential shredding, linen, window cleaning, security services, groundskeeping, laundry contracts, fire alarm services, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevator, flooring, furniture, and general contractors. Maintain liaison with regulatory bodies and stay informed about regulations impacting environmental cleaning and building standards. Hire, terminate, and orient staff in all three departments on WHMIS, codes, and proper handling of chemicals. Procure and cost-analyze contracts for various projects. Monitor and approve purchases within the assigned budget for housekeeping, laundry, maintenance supplies, and external contractors. Manage all aspects of the laundry department: staff, supplies, linen, and equipment. Manage all aspects of the housekeeping department: staff, chemicals, paper products, and equipment. Ensure housekeeping chemicals meet safety requirements and are effective. Interact with staff, residents, and family members to ensure environmental services meet expectations. Manage staff scheduling, work assignments, payroll, and attendance. Operate within guidelines established by the CUPE collective agreement. Assist in developing the annual budget and monitor operations relative to staffing, supplies, linen, maintenance contracts, and capital equipment. Liaise with Southlake Medical Center occupants and hospital counterparts. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Education and Experience Building Environmental Systems (BES) preferred; WHMIS certification required; Health and Safety certification preferred. Minimum 3 years of Long-Term Care experience and 3 years of management experience preferred. CHHA (Canadian Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association) membership preferred. Physical and Mental Demands Walking, lifting, and climbing required. Must be able to assist with maintenance tasks. Must be on call and able to respond to emergency calls and assist when needed. Work performed both in office and on the facility floor, including hands‑on maintenance duties. Time Type Full time Compensation Compensation will be discussed during the recruiting process.
