Hannover Re Canada is seeking an ambitious senior Actuary P&C to join our team in Toronto, Ontario on a permanent, full‑time, hybrid basis. As Senior Actuary P&C, you will play a central role in actuarial valuation, financial reporting and regulatory matters of our Canadian Branch. Working closely with senior management, Finance, Underwriting and our global actuarial network, you will ensure robust actuarial judgement, regulatory compliance and high‑quality reporting. Over time, and subject to regulatory approval, this role offers a clear pathway to transition into the position of Appointed Actuary for the Canadian Branch, a significant career milestone for the right candidate. Dutie & Responsibilities Leading and overseeing actuarial valuation of insurance liabilities under IFRS17 Preparing and taking ownership of actuarial contributions to: the Appointed Actuary’s Report (AAR) Financial Condition Testing (FCT) regulatory capital assessments and solvency‑related analysis Ensuring compliance with OSFI requirements, including Guideline E 15 and the annual OSFI Memorandum to the Appointed Actuary Developing, maintaining and reviewing actuarial methodologies, assumptions and models in line with accepted actuarial practice Acting as a key actuarial contact for regulators, auditors and peer reviewers Providing actuarial insight and challenge to senior management on reserve adequacy, risk profile and emerging issues (e.g., catastrophe risk, inflation, climate‑related impacts) Contributing to forecasts, ORSA‑related analysis and long‑term financial planning Collaborating closely with Hannover Re Group functions and contributing to group‑wide actuarial initiatives Coaching and reviewing the work of actuarial colleagues and fostering a strong actuarial control environment Educational Background Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or related fields Experience & Qualifications Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) Minimum 7 years significant actuarial experience in the P&C insurance or reinsurance industry, preferable within a federally regulated Canadian entity or branch Strong and current technical knowledge of IFRS17 actuarial valuation, reserving and OSFI expectations for Appointed Actuaries Strong sense of business insight and customer focus, paired with a hands‑on, results‑driven, “can‑do” attitude Strong analytical skills and adept at interpreting strategic vision into operational and tactical models Ability to lead and manage actuarial projects, including effective delegation Sound professional judgement, independence of thought and attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication skills including experience working with senior management Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a network of contacts within the Hannover Re actuarial community and throughout the industry Exposure to ResQ, SAP, MicroStrategy, Power BI, or similar reporting tools is an advantage Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
