The Centre provides culturally responsive autism services targeting culturally and linguistically diverse families. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, our Centre offers a dynamic range of services that support the development of individuals on the autism spectrum at all life stages, along with their caregivers.Your Role on Our Team The Living ‘N’ Learning program supports young adults living with autism by helping them to learn new and meaningful skills that encourage independent living. Through an engaging curriculum and supportive instructors, our program encourages students to create greater connections to the people and community around them. The Living ‘N’ Learning program places an emphasis on the following domains of learning:Independent LivingRecreational and Physical ActivityBuilding Community and Social SkillsThe program provides students with fun, challenging, and meaningful daily activities with the goal of preparing them for life outside the classroom. The Classroom Facilitator will be responsible for working in classroom to deliver a group-based program focused on developing independent daily living skills (communication, play, social interactions, functional routines, behavioural self-management, functional academics, and building focus & attention). Main Responsibilities Participant Support & ProgrammingSupervising clients in a classroom setting within the centre and during community and off-site excursionsImplement appropriate learning activities and strategies to help participants reach individual and group goalsUse ABA-related teaching strategies such as reinforcement, prompting, shaping, chaining, modeling, and fadingMonitor participant behaviors, teach replacement skills, and manage challenging behaviors using approved strategiesAddress personal care requirements during sessionsBuild rapport with participants and foster a positive, inclusive environmentSupport arrivals, departures, and safe medication dispensingCommunicationCommunicate effectively with caregivers through verbal updates, emails, and phone callsDevelop and maintain positive relationships with families, caregivers, partner agencies, volunteers, and internal staffDocument and communicate incident reports to the internal team and caregiversMaintain accurate and timely records of daily observations, data collection, and client progressProgram Quality & ComplianceContribute ideas for program improvement and curriculum developmentParticipate in team meetings, trainings, workshops, and ongoing professional developmentAdhere to all licensing, funding, and organizational policies and proceduresMaintain confidentiality standards (HIPAA/PHIPA as applicable)Participate in regular safety drills and comply with all emergency proceduresMaintain current certifications required for health and safety (e.g., CPR, SMG)Ensure sanitary standards are upheld and identify participants who may be unwellEnsure smooth Classroom OperationsEnsure smooth operations of assigned classrooms (working at 1:3/1:4 ratios)Collaborate with team members and assist with behaviors when neededMentor volunteers and support positive classroom engagementMaintain a clean and organized classroom environmentLeadership (When Acting as Supervisor)Step into a leadership role only in the absence of the Program SupervisorCoordinate and support staff to ensure smooth operations across classroomsRe-assign staff and contact on-call employees if needed to maintain coverageProblem-solve day-to-day challenges while following established program protocolsCommunicate and report any incidents, concerns, or unusual circumstances promptly to the Senior DirectorSupport oversight of daily tasks and routines, including attendance, incident reports, and curriculum activitiesAssists with new client assessments and interviews when neededMinimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree or diploma in a related field (e.g., social services, psychology, ABA)Minimum one (1) year experience working with youth or adults (preferably post-graduation)Experience as an Instructor Therapist in an ABA an assetExperience working with individuals with ASDStrong understanding of program planning and behaviour management strategiesAbility to evaluate and adapt activities for individuals with developmental disabilitiesExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populationsDemonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a team and independentlyProficient with MS Office SuiteProof of full COVID-19 vaccinationWorking ConditionsWilling to wear a mask throughout their shiftWillingness to perform cleaning dutiesMust be able to stand for extended periods of time to work with clientsAbility to move classroom furniture/equipment as neededScent-free environmentParticipate in off-site activities as required (e.g., field trips, events)The SAAAC Autism Centre welcomes and encourages applications from individuals with disabilities.
