Position details Position: Bylaw Enforcement OfficerDepartment: Protective & Legislative ServicesStatus: Full-Time ContinuousAudience for posting: Internal/ExternalCompensation: $32.02 - $35.77 determined by candidates’ level of certificationJob posting #: 24.066Hours of work: 40 hours per weekDays of work: To be determined; likely to include weekends and holidaysDeadline to apply: Open until filled Responsibilities The primary purpose of this position is to enforce the Municipality of Jasper’s Bylaws in a consistent and efficient manner; investigate inquiries and public complaints (including Animal Control). Under the direction of the Licensing and Enforcement Manager: Enforce Bylaws; Promote voluntary compliance; Issue violation tickets and traffic tags; Serve summonses and subpoenas; Prepare related legal documents; Investigate bylaws to prepare for court proceedings; Respond to public complaints and inquiries; Follow up on tickets to ensure payment; Prepare for and attend court for violation tickets. Conduct foot, vehicle and other patrols as required. Impound and ensure the safety of loose, dangerous or abandoned domestic animals; operate the domestic animal control facility. Cooperate with Parks Canada Warden Service on domestic-wildlife encounters within the Town. Maintain records of infractions and licenses; Stay informed about local government context and relationships (Municipality with Jasper National Park and Parks Canada Agency). Collaborate with staff across departments; follow Health & Safety Manual and OHS regulations; participate in the operation of the Municipal vehicle impound and storage facility; undertake other operational and public safety duties as required. Qualifications & experience Grade 12 Diploma; Training in law enforcement or a combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer; A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License; A current Standard First Aid Certificate; Previous experience in law enforcement or a related field; Ability to successfully complete the Physical Attributes Test for Uniformed Officers (PARE) test; Ability to obtain Community Peace Officer Level 1 status.
