Overview Reporting to the Manager – Technology Services, the Server - Senior Solution Architect is responsible for the architecture, design, and delivery of large, complex, strategic, and enterprise-level solutions that support MBLL business objectives. The Senior Solution Architect provides technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making through to project planning, including providing guidance and advice to Solution Architects. This position is accountable for ensuring server, compute, and platform architectural considerations and operational context are represented in enterprise-level planning and decision-making activities. They providedtechnical leadership in defining, governing, and evolving MBLL’s enterprise compute architecture and associated roadmap, supporting hybrid infrastructure environments including on-premise platforms, virtualization, operating systems, storage integration, and enterprise workloads. The Server - Senior Solution Architect operates at both technical and executive levels, articulating architectural direction, risk posture, modernization strategies, and investment trade-offs in clear business terms, while guiding delivery teams to implement secure, scalable, and standards-aligned solutions. Responsibilities Develop complex and enterprise-wide solution architectures for MBLL systems with the goal of reducing technology footprint and promoting system re-use. Design integrated system frameworks by identifying shared services and components to ensure strategic reuse across highly integrated solutions. Define and govern enterprise compute platform architecture, including virtualization, operating system standards, storage integration, and workload hosting strategies. Develop and maintain short-term and multi-year (3–5 year) server and compute roadmaps, including hardware lifecycle, OS lifecycle, virtualization strategy, capacity planning, and modernization initiatives. Ensure proposed and existing system architectures are aligned with organizational goals, enterprise architecture standards, and data governance requirements. Provide architectural expertise, direction, and mentorship to Solution Architects, Systems Analysts, and development teams. Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to define technology standards and baseline platforms. Act as a technical liaison between vendors and internal stakeholders, including architects, developers, testers, and operations teams. Lead and support high availability, disaster recovery, and workload resilience architecture across enterprise platforms. Conduct research on emerging technologies and recommend solutions to improve cost effectiveness, scalability, and flexibility. Lead proof of concept and proof of value initiatives to evaluate new technologies. Review solution designs and procurement initiatives for compliance with architectural standards and roadmap alignment. Participate in business case development and cost/benefit analysis for IT investments. Support intake and prioritization of IT consulting requests, new systems, and major upgrades. Contribute to the development and enforcement of architecture policies, standards, and procedures. Participate in technology procurement processes, including RFP evaluations. Monitor vendor and contracted resource performance in coordination with management. Provide technical advice and recommendations to business stakeholders, senior leadership, and executive committees. Foster strong relationships across business and technical teams. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Completion of a recognized degree or diploma in an IT-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience. A minimum of twelve (12) years of Information Technology experience, including infrastructure roles focused on server and compute environments. A minimum of seven (7) years of senior-level experience designing server and compute solutions for complex enterprise workloads (e.g., ERP, databases, analytics, financial systems) with high availability and disaster recovery requirements. Senior-level experience in enterprise server, compute, and hybrid infrastructure environments, including virtualization and operating systems (Windows and Linux). Experience defining and implementing multi-year technology roadmaps and modernization strategies. Experience leading small teams and providing architectural leadership. Strong understanding of data centre fundamentals (power, cooling, capacity, and performance considerations). Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated political acumen. Proven project planning and management experience. In-depth knowledge of IT best practices, technologies, architectures, and emerging trends across infrastructure domains. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and facilitation. Experience building strong relationships with business and technical stakeholders. Industry certifications in architecture frameworks or business analysis are considered an asset. ITIL 4 certifications (e.g., Foundation, DPI) are considered an asset.
