We’re looking for a passionate HSE Advisor for our Northern and Interior BC Region to champion this mission alongside a dynamic operations team. You’ll collaborate with McElhanney’s HSE team members and operational teams to deliver system‑driven and people‑centered solutions that drive continual improvement. Responsibilities Enable and support operations teams to fulfill their HSE responsibilities as defined by the HSE Management System (HSEMS). Coach, support, and audit the effective implementation of McElhanney’s HSEMS across operations. Work directly with a team of HSE professionals and operations to maintain a workplace where everyone goes home safe, every day. Support HSE systems by contributing to key internal projects and completing work tasks related to continuous improvement. Develop Safe Work Methods in collaboration with subject matter experts and support continual improvement of all elements within the HSEMS. Develop training and education content for employees. Provide support, coaching, and feedback to supervisors in incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action recommendation. Proactively identify non‑compliance issues and general opportunities for improvement; assist in developing solutions to improve safety performance. Provide insights from direct experience, data dashboards, and frontline perspective to management for decision making, learning, coaching, and continual improvement. Complete the Subcontractor HSE Prequalification Process as required for projects and support the development of Project Specific Safety Plans. Perform internal audits and provide recommendations and corrective actions to management. Conduct periodic work‑site inspections at offices and field project sites to verify effective implementation of the HSEMS and provide continuous improvement opportunities for workers and the division/branch. Other tasks as assigned. Location You are located within daily commuting distance or are willing to relocate to Kamloops, Prince George, Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, Terrace, or Fort St. John. Travel Monthly travel requirements vary based on the types and availability of projects but typically range from 0–25%. What You’ll Bring Minimum 5 years of experience in an OHS role; strong technical knowledge of OHS hazards, regulations, and best practices related to civil construction or other high‑risk industries. Experience supporting people and safe production in the field and PMs/managers in the office. Attention to detail and an ability to work well in a team environment. Comfortable with AI (e.g., generative AI) and technology (e.g., mobile applications, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent organizational, communication, and technical writing skills. Champion’s Spirit – able to work independently with minimal supervision and guide the team through changes and ambiguous situations. Bonus Points For Diploma or certificate in OHS and/or CRSP or CRST designation, or being a candidate for either designation. Knowledge of HOP, SIF, Energy‑Based Safety, and other modern approaches to safety. Experience in civil and/or pipeline construction. Experience working on remote worksites and technical terrain. Experience with a widely dispersed workforce of small crews or individuals. Experience with a multi‑disciplinary business supporting a combination of office and field work. Experience developing HSE‑related programs, standards, and practices. What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $85,000 – $100,000 per annum.
