The Rotating Equipment Engineer (P.Eng) provides technical engineering support to capital projects within a refinery and chemical plant environment. This role ensures that rotating equipment design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning meet all applicable engineering standards, corporate requirements, and HSSE expectations. Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, the engineer supports EPC/EPCM contractors, construction, commissioning, and operations to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant rotating equipment systems. Key Responsibilities Technical Assurance & Engineering Governance Provide technical assurance for all rotating equipment engineering deliverables within project scope. Ensure compliance with corporate engineering standards, industry codes, and safe work practices. Review and approve rotating equipment specifications, datasheets, vendor packages, and engineering documents. Ensure consistency of rotating equipment design across all assigned projects. Drive and coupling selection Gearboxes and mechanical seals Bearing lubrication systems Equipment packaging and layout Controls and safeguarding requirements Vendor Management & Quality Assurance Facilitate and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) . Review and approve exceptions for approved suppliers and manufacturers. Provide QA support aligned with the site Quality Manual and corporate Quality Management Plan. Support variance/derogation processes and ensure proper approvals. Project Execution Support Support construction, installation, commissioning, and start‑up of rotating equipment within project scope. Resolve rotating equipment issues during fabrication, installation, and commissioning. Participate in design reviews, Process Safety Reviews, and HSSE case development. Apply Human Factors, Operability, and Maintainability principles to rotating equipment design. Provide guidance on Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical clarifications. Standards, Governance & Knowledge Management Provide guidance on corporate and industry rotating equipment standards (API, site standards, technical position statements). Ensure best‑practice engineering work processes and design tools are applied. Support knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and continuous improvement across projects. Required Qualifications APEGA P.Eng — mandatory (must be able to authenticate engineering work). 10+ years of rotating equipment engineering experience , preferably in refining or chemical operations. Strong knowledge of rotating equipment design, standards, and safe work practices. Experience supporting EPC/EPCM detailed design. Proven capability to deliver technical assurance and engineering governance. Effective stakeholder communication and facilitation skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment. Demonstrated ability to challenge assumptions and drive innovation. Assets Experience in contractor management or front‑line leadership. Background in project engineering or project execution environments.
