Position Description Title: Manufacturing Manager Department: Plant Overhead Immediate Supervisor: Operations Manager Status: Exempt Position Purpose: Manages daily plant operations and provides leadership to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement goals are achieved. Builds a strong supervisory team through coaching, mentoring, and behavior-based leadership. Principle Accountabilities Provides oversight of departmental supervisors, including assigning workloads, overseeing quality, and advocating for employee health and safety. Leads by example, demonstrating professional, safety-focused, and accountable behavior at all times. Coaches, mentors, and develops supervisors through regular feedback, performance discussions, and active leadership support. Communicates clearly and respectfully with supervisors, employees, and cross-functional partners, fostering trust and engagement. Identifies, develops, and prioritizes manufacturing plans to achieve service, quality, and productivity goals, including continuous improvement and waste reduction initiatives. Implements and sustains IPS performance metrics and supports progress toward site certification goals. Builds employee commitment and ownership by promoting teamwork, accountability, and a solution-focused approach to problem solving. Manages conflict constructively and addresses issues promptly while maintaining positive working and labor relations. Establishes a clear vision for assigned areas that aligns with site and corporate goals, using technology to improve performance, service, and quality. Manages labor and capital resources to optimize systems and methods while balancing labor and expense budgets, including scheduling for efficient operations and planned equipment maintenance. Serves as a key member of the site leadership team, working collaboratively with other departments and external partners. Demonstrates adaptability and sound judgment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and supports teams through operational and organizational change. Assists in developing and executing the annual performance plan to achieve site business objectives. Performs related duties as assigned by the manager. Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related technical discipline preferred. 10+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role within a unionized manufacturing environment. Proven ability to lead by example with a strong focus on safety, professionalism, and accountability. Experience coaching and developing supervisors using clear feedback and effective interpersonal skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across teams. Demonstrated ability to manage conflict constructively and support employee engagement. Adaptable and effective in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Practical, solution-focused problem-solving mindset. Experience with manufacturing process improvement, project management, and Lean or Six Sigma principles preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based technologies.
